First coolant and atf drain / refill...impressions
Hi all,
I would like to give a shout out to bythabay for his DIY videos. Thanks!!! Finally, did my first coolant and atf drain/refill. My G is an 05 with 30k miles.
Impressions:
1) Surprised that I could of done the ATF without lifting the car. The bolt was reachable with a long stretch of my arm. I actually did it by lifting though since having a pan underneath it would limit the mess but I might think about not lifting car next time. It's a pain to lift the front end I think. It drained out exactly 4 qts. In two months, when I do my next oil change, I'll drain another 4 quarts of the ATF.
2) I removed the underbody shield to do the coolant. Next time, I might try doing it without even lifting the car or taking out the shield. There's a hole right under the coolant drain plug. Waiting for the air pocket to burp out took forever. Must of driven a good 30 minutes or more and stopping, starting and revving the rpm. Found out afterward that some rev it at an incline or hill and supposedly that helps.
3) Without this forum, I wouldn't have done any of these myself.
My next project would be the front/rear differential and transfer drain/refill. I already try crawling in and check the rear differential. I can probably do that without lifting the car too. I am not like super skinny. 170 lb, 5 ft 10...
