Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

Is it me or is the Crawford V5 Plenum kinda loud. I love the noise generated by my stock exhaust and Nismo CAI. But the plenum make a sort of sucking sounds that makes me cringe.
I don't think I have a leak because it never stalls out, but dyno butt did not notice any performance gains from this mod.

Or can it be the lack of engine cover.

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

I added the cats and intake first. It was too loud before I added the plenum and after the plenum it quited down the car by quite a bit. I'd suggest adding cats or straight pipes to get the hp/tq gains and maybe, just maybe it would help with the sound.

catatatatatatatafish did the install in the same order you did, maybe IM him as to what his opinion is.

Good Luck...

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

neff, I guess I followed your lead with the sequence of installation. My order was based on the fact that the cats were readily available while I had to sit and wait for the new V4 kinetix plenum to be made. I don't think my car got any louder below 4k rpms, however I do think I can hear the growl more at higher RPMs than I did before. Since I now don't carry the infiniti engine cover anymore, that also adds to the noise comming from the engine bay. Regarding performance, my G has now completely transformed into a beast. Doing just cats or plenum is worthless IMO. You have to have the combo to realize the potential of both as my friend catatafish had pointed out before.

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

I just ordered the B-quiet hood liner in attempt to quiet down the gurgling from the Kinetix I just installed....another member praised this product. I will let you guys know the results.
I guess now I need the cats....may go with the resonated test pipe group buy from Kinetix. I don't think the plenum did much by itself, either.
My car sounds like a 6 cyl. F-body with a bad muffler...less than inspiring to say the least.

Let us know about the fit/finish/performance gains from the Kinetix straight pipes w/ resonator. Sounds like a cool product. Hope it works out well for you

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

If doing the plenum without the cats doesn't help, I won't be getting the plenum.

Replacing cats is a felony (so I've heard), unless you only drive it off road..

no you can replace the stock cats with performace or Hi-flow Cats but Straight pipes or Test Pipes are not street legal

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

No one will ever know if you changed your cats to high flow cats. (Straight/test pipes are a different matter)

How would anyone in law enforcment (a.k.a. city revenue generators) find out? Most aftermarket cats don't look any different from the stock ones. It's not like some uneducated $30,000 a year meter maid (cop) is going to figure it out.

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

That is incorrect, SuperRacer. The only legal reason for changing the cats is if the stock cats are damaged. However, you have to replace it with another factory cat. Aftermarket cats are explicitly illegal.

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

i think of it this way.... if i get caught for something illegal with my car that is a felony... its gonna be one of those 140 mph speeding tickets that i get arrested for.... not my freakin cats.

You've only bad mouthed the construction of the plenum since we installed mine at my house. In the last week all you've said in plenum related threads is that you will NEVER install a plenum unless and until a better solution is released. You said you didn't like the warpage and cracking issues, remember?

It's not like you haven't been convicted of felonies before in your car, geesh Mother Teresa lighten up. (Actually I made this last accusation up as I was typing, but you all get the point, right?)

Re: Crawford V5 Plenum - Loud ?

1) I installed the intake, then plenum, then cats. After the plenum, I noticed a deeper, slightly louder sound. I also noticed an increase in performance. However, when I installed it the first time there was a terrible whistle due to air leak. When I torqued it down more, it seemed to stop the whistle but my QM times were lower. When I got the non warped plenum and installed it, I noticed fuel smegma collecting in one corner and leaking through the gasket. Air leak explains my diminished performance. Once I got the flat plenum, she rode like a top and my QM times were back and improved.

2) The Clean Air Act of 1970 lists the infractions. It also lists the punishment. Nowhere that I could find, did it say Felony. I read the whole thing and I started skimming, but best I could tell it lists the CIVIL penalties that we are subject to. The civil penalties can range from up to $2500 per day for a user like us installing one and $25,000 per day for someone selling a vehicle knowingly with the emissions tampered with.

A Felony is:
FELONY - One of several grave crimes, such as murder, rape, or burglary, punishable by a more stringent sentence than that given for a misdemeanor; an offense punishable by a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one year. 18 U.S.C.

An offence which occasions a total forfeiture of. either lands or goods or both, at common law, to which capital or other punishment may be super-added, according to the degree of guilt.

(2) Obs. Any of several crimes in early English law that were punishable by forfeiture of land or goods and by possible loss of life or a bodily part. A breach of homage, a violation of the contract between lord and vassal, a violation of feudal customs. The legitimate breaches of the contract included: failure to protect the vassal; refusal of justice by denial of access to the LORD's court; dishonourable conduct towards the vassal.

Many people confuse "Felony" with "Federal" and in the media the terms are used loosely.

Prison and Jail are also confused. Jail is year or less, Prison is more than a year. You can be violated in either, but it won't happen because of your cats so go ahead and pick up the soap.

Q45tech has me all worried about the karma thing.

Crawford vs Kinetix is like Bush vs Gore.

I voted libertarian.
