Yes. The backing plate and shifter posts are black anodized steel. The paddle shifters are CF covered aluminum.

I use them daily and they make the 5AT experience a lot more enjoyable, especially when downshifting for turns, entrance ramps, or to pass.

Only aluminum can be anodized…

Dave, is there any lag at all in shifts? Is it faster, slower or the same as MM with the OEM shifter?

Actually that isn't true either. There are quite a few other metals that can be anodized including titianium. That is where the "burnt" rainbow colors come from

ah - I was not aware... I always thought anodized parts were aluminum (most are anyway).

Yes, there still is a lag, but the shifts are fractionally quicker only because the shifter mechanism only moves 1/8" vs the longer throw of the console shifter. The downshift is faster than I could execute with a true manual, but the upshift is as fast as I could do with a true manual. I find myself using the shifters far more than I thought.

You should get them. You'll enjoy them, especially on the auto-x/road course/mountain drives.

as much as I don’t want to spend more right now (still have several things with current project), I might consider the paddles... I never really thought that I'd be interested in them, but now that I am more interested in road course I think it might be good to have. Zach seems to like them - he tracks quite a bit… and clearly you seem to like them… I’ll look into them (eventually)

Thanks for the review ~

Do it. You'll feel more in touch with the car. Your hands never have to leave the wheel which is a good thing if you're doing any mountain runs.

question about activating the paddles... do you need to be in MM for the paddles to work? Or does it switch over to MM when the paddles are activated.

How would you make it go back into normal Drive, if you dont need it to be in MM for the paddles to work.

I think you put it in MM mode first for the paddles to work, then you once you shift back to D the paddles stop working. I think that's how my friends work, mine are going on next week.

The shifters only work when in MM. Since I have an 03 sedan, when I put the shifter over in MM, the tranny automatically selects 4th gear as top gear and doesn't do that annoying shift into 1st when you come to a stop, forcing you to have to manually every gear all the time. I just leave it in MM and have total control over what my tranny is going to do. If I come to a stop, I simply tap the shifter 3 times and have control over 1st. I much prefer the 03 sedan MM over the later designs.
