New clutch install chatter questions?
I did some searching about new clutch installs that have chatter throughout the break-in period and I understand that all new clutches are going to have noticeable chatter to begin with, but i just want to clarify some specifics
When engaging the clutch and starting to let go of the clutch i hear loud chatter during low rpms and then it goes away at higher rpms and if I am at higher gears. is that normal to hear chatter when your beginning to go, I always thought when people talked about chatter it was when the car is idle.
If this is normal, when will i hear this chatter starting to calm down? (i have about 450 miles on my new clutch)
My new clutch is just a oem replacement with new 18lb flywheel and throwout bearing
(installed by a professional)
I'm pretty new to drivetrain, learning as i go, help would be appreciated

Lets make sure that we are all on the same page when it comes to terms used to describe a specific phenomena. Clatter (a.k.a gear noise or gear lash) occurs as a result of the move to a single-mass flywheel. This sound is normally dampened by the OE dual-mass flywheel and without it the noise will be more obvious. The sound actually originates within the transmission as the gear teeth contact each other.
Chatter on the otherhand occurs as a result of the new, unseated disc, scuffing the flywheel or plate surface during engagement. As the friction material seats this sound/feeling will become less noticible. Remember a clutch disc will always wear in from the outiside edge. This is due to the outer edge moving faster than the inner edge as a result of it being farther away from the centerline of the assembly.
Beyond the definitions above chatter is normal during break-in. Give it some time and let us know if you have any further questions.

well the chatter seems to have gone down a little bit im at around 700 miles
so i pushed my car a little and i saw this red light go off and on right below the REV light
anyone know what this means and if i just need to keep breaking in my clutch?

That's just a shift light. Nothing to be worried about. If you press the tripodometer reset button a couple times, there should be a number on the small screen showing what rpm your REV light is set to. Look in your owner's manual on how to change it. I don't feel like explaining how to use it. Any time a light comes on on your dash, your owner's manual should be the first place you check, btw.
Well, if the light was below the REV indicator then it is more likely that this was actually your "slip" indicator which references tire spin and the subsequent activation of your cars traction control to quell it. No worries.
