I came up on a couple of free quarts of Mobil 1 10w-40. I know the recommended oil is 5w-30, but can I run 10w-40 in my coupe? I did a search and read that it might be too thick??? I live in So Cal so the temp/weather is not extreme at all. I have 45,000 mile on the car too...

 

Can anyone help me out?

 

Probably would be okay. The 5w vs 10w is only it's cold pour rating. Once it's up to temp, the oil is a 40 either way.

isnt the 5w the cold weight and the 30 at temp weight meaning not a 40 weight
oil is probably too thick just run the factory reccommended 5w-30 and keep your G happy

 

You'll be fine with that. Where you live, you won't be having any 30 degree motor temps anytime soon.... so the oil will mostly flow like a 30 to 40 weight oil.
