Mod Suggestion 04 6mt
Mod Suggestion 04 6mt
Hey guys I picked up my twighlight blue 04 6mt about two weeks ago and have been enjoying the heck out of it. Ive been reading a ton on the forums about mods and figured it was time to ask for some guidance.
I used to have a mustang so the relatively limited amount of mods to choose from is taking a little bit to get used to.
Ive been searching around and have determined that about the best (and only) relatively inexpensive and reliable NA mods you can make are.
Motordyne spacer
MREV2 lower
ztube
pop charger
Exhaust
I really love the factory exhaust sound and from what I have heard through my many searches I have done its a good performance exhaust also (for factory).
I also do not want to swap out my intake box for a popcharger.
I would not mind a Z-tube but again in my many searches it has become unclear if the z-tube helps performance overall or if it hurts midrange slightly for only a very small gain in the upper. I would like the extra intake noise as long as the tube doesnt reduce midrange power/torque
The plenum spacer seems to be a given. 5/16"
The MREV is a given on revup motors but since mine is a non rev again its unclear as to if this is really worth it??? What do you think??
So here is my plan
z-tube
K&N for factory box
Plenum spacer
Is the Mrev going to be something that is worth it for my car?? Also will a chip/tune do anything that is worth the money to do it??
Are there any headers that will bolt to the factory exhaust that would benefit the car???
Thanks in advance...

pop charger sounds nice but you may get heat soak
youre dead on going with z-tube/k&n, md 5/16
you do not need the mrev on a non rev-up
for a tune, it will help but you should wait till you get more mods

-Pop charger is just sound, people claimed they have had heat soak and some said they never had it.
-Z-tube doesnt lower your midrange power, if anything it is a benefit, but that too is also mainly a sound mod.
-md 5/16 is the way to go.
-MREV 2, well in simple words 400 dollars for 4 hp..so no. Ive seen dynos on this.
-headers, none make any reasonable power for the amount u pay 550-750 dollars for 3-7 hp. ive seen dynos on this as well. Our stock headers are top notch
-if you want power, full catback exhaust..look for something with 3" piping. Test pipes or HFC. MD 5/16 spacer. Upgrade your final drive to 3.9 or 3.7 gears. Your already at 3.5 so its up to you. Lastly, get yourself a tune.

Thanks for the input!!
So
Ztube
K&N for stock box
Motordyne 5/16 with thermo isolator
Tunes were mentioned. Are you guys getting custom tunes or is there a chip/piggyback that you can get that is preprogrammed for your mods.
Should these mods make any improvement that would be felt??
The one thing that I wish could be done to make a significant improvement would be for midrange torque.. I love the way the car pulls once you get it up in the RPMS but down low the boggy nature is just different especially coming from a V8... Overall I love the car though and am happy just the way it is.
My mustang was a constant modded machine and as I get older having something that I just enjoy without touching constantly is becoming more and more important to me so I really want to do a few best bang for my buck mods and then leave it alone!!

our V6 is a different beast then your ol' 5.0. gearing would help down low, as would FI. most other breathing-type mods only help mid-high rpm range where our cars already make decent power. you'll have a tough time matching the V8 low-end grunt with the VQ - although it is a great engine in an overall solid car.
Plenum spacer (MD) and Z-tube are essential. For intake you dont want to be sucking in engine air...its hot. Get an intake with an airbox (I have JWT with STILLEN airbox).
Exhaust will definetly open up some good power. Make sure its the right exhaust though. Don't waste money just on sound as the stock sounds good. The stock midpipe chokes down at least to 1.75". Crush bends suck.
Headers will help but only if you get a tune.
High flow cats/Test pipes are great.
