Installed Stillen CAI! Results so far...

Installed. Took me 20 minutes to do the first time. I am experienced with stuff like this, so it wasn't that hard. I opened the opening up on the stillen intake to match the power duct opening as well. I reset the ecu by removing both cables off the batt, and shorting them out. Then reconnected them, and took it for a drive around the block. The car was so weak it wasn't funny. So I parked and waited till the next day for work. I drive around 100 miles a day for work, so this was a good learning curve. I pushed the car hard pretty much all day to make the ecu learn good. It learned, and the car got stronger throughout the whole day. By the end of the day, I was spinning 2nd shifts so much that the tail would go sideways on me a little. 3rd gear a bit more of a chirp than normal as well. The low end felt weaker earlier, but it feels like its coming back now. The intake is definitely loud at WOT, so loud people look at me when I am on it. But normal driving the car is just as quiet. I can only hear maybe a whistle when taking off and shifting normally but nothing thats loud.
The ECU is probably still learning, but the results so far are impressive. I went from a k&n drop in and Ztube to this intake. It definitely produces more power all over the powerband it seems. I had a recent dyno of my car with the recent mods, and will soon get one with just the stillen intake change after I know the car has learned the new air/fuel adjustments.

Good deal!
My experience was the same upon installation.
In fact, when I first put it on I went WOT down a clear open road and when I let off the gas the engine stalled. It did this a couple times after the install but since then it performs great.
My guess is the new free flowing intake caused the engine to run so lean that it stalled out.
The ECU eventually learns the new condition and corrects the A/F ratio. The final result is more power. The Stillen air box must be doing something to the air mass flow rate or it wouldn't be able to affect the engine into stalling or runing so weak when first installed.
Now I need to get a Z tube, cats and Plenum to round out the rest of the system!

Okay, I shouldn't even respond to this post. But I will.
The STILLEN IS A CAI. It doesn't NEED to go near the ground to get cold air. It gets it where the stock one does, in the best place to GET cold air from. The higher you are off the ground the colder it is. Ground temps can be as much as 50 degrees higher than 2 feet higher.
The JWT is a HAI, the Stillen is not due to its full heat-shield and air coming in the same way the stock system did.
I suggest look up your facts before posting something as stupid as this.

Where did you get the idea that an engine sucks in air, the outside atmospheric pressure PUSHES the air in to fill the void as the piston moves down the bore.
The piston rings are not sealed sufficiently to make a vacuum pump!
At idle the 2/3rds [9.7 psi] of atmosphere lower pressure vs. maybe only 14.2 psi at WOT.

The first three posts in this thread contain a scary lack of understanding of how the systems all work together and what changes occur with a simple intake mod. Ugh.
For every post saying they get more power from the stillen there is an equal number saying they get less. ??
Q45, if you open the door in your air conditioned house, does the hot air come in, or is the cold air going out? In practice, it doesn't matter, the house gets hotter. The pressure in the cylinder has to be less than the outside air, or the air would not be able to "push" itself in. Some would call that a vacuum.
"Vacuum Hoses"
"Vacuum lines are a series of hoses, or tubing, to the intake manifold. These hoses supply vacuum to various components of the engine, such as the emissions control system."
If the rings are not sealed enough to make a vacuum pump, wouldn't the crankcase be filled with combustion gases? Or going the other way, wouldn't the cylinders be filled with oil?
Enough of this, I'm going down to wash and wax!!

Whoa! Atmosphere pushes gases into an engine?! Dang, I want to drive my G on Venus. 32 lbs./sq.in of methane, I would have a blown topfuel G then. Just have to bolt an oxygen tank in the trunk and install some all-terrain tires.
Re: Installed Stillen CAI! Results so far...
Your right that the oem system does pull in normal air temps (about 9 degree's above ambiant), and the Stillen follow's that path, speaking from actual MAF temp readings pinning down the factual intake air temps at the MAF and comparing to ambiant. However CAI's that draw from down low do not show higher temp numbers in comparision, going by the same factual MAF temp readings in comparision to ambiant Saying they do otherwise is not supported by factual testing. We already have this type of data from the Stillen, oem, and JWT popcharger. I will do a post combining all the data with my own results from my system in the near furture.

Re: Installed Stillen CAI! Results so far...
Not that my opinion is worth anything, and feel free to disagree, but here's my assessment of the Stillen CAI/CAB/WHATEVER it is:
*Note: I sold my unit to G35_TX, so the one he's reviewing is the one that came off my car.
-Initial impressions, felt slower everywhere before 4K and possibly faster over 4K. It wasn't a night and day difference. In my entire life of modding cars, the only night and day difference was from supercharging my Maxima. No intake, exhaust, y-pipe, cams, etc made a huge difference. Sure some differences are noticeable but nothing is night and day. Night and day is like BMW 330i vs BMW M3.
Anyways, I ended up taking it on and off for a while trying to determine what system I preferred. Everytime I put it back on my g/f started b!tching about how it sounds lame, how it sounds like one of those Civics on Westheimer in Houston (yes that's an insult). I agreed, but I was more concerned with the performance then the sound. I then double-sprained my ankle and lacked the ability to remove it (couldn't stand up without crutches). Finally, after about 1.5 months I removed the piece and went to stock. Instantly, I felt much better revving around idle (under 1500 RPM). Power wise felt about the same throughout the power band, and if anything started feeling faster with the stock system. The single largest satisfaction was with how the engine felt. It was so much quieter and smoother. The car on the FWY just felt so much smoother, less vibrations, less noises, etc. To me that was more noticeable then any possible power gain or power loss. Also, my g/f is now happy as can be, stating the car sounds much more manly now. She said it has a muffled like sound that sounds more like Vince's M3 (Vince a friend of mine with an M3). I completely agree with her.
From a sound standpoint, the Stillen sounds like a Civic on steroids. I prefer the understated sound of stock. Please don't argue with me on this, this is MY opinion. I frankly feel it sounds like a ricemobile with the intake; MY OPINION, if you disagree then YOU'RE right.
Even after reading this post I have no desire to go back to the Stillen. I experienced it for about 2 months, gave it a try, and am so glad it's gone. I hope you enjoy the part G35_TX, and it sounds like you have a positive experience in front of you.
I'm sticking with the stock box and slapping on an exhaust of some sort.

Well in responce to the AC house statement, Air, Fluid, anything, always travels from a high energy state to a lower one. So when you open your door your letting hot air in. In the process some cold air will travel out in an attempt of equilibrium.
So kinda both, but then pressure differences might pull air the other way.
As to an engine? It pulls more air than just the atmospheric presure, so what force is driving that?

It is loud, and it is irritating to be this loud. I wish they had a CAI just like the Maximas did. It wasn't near as bad. The car sometimes feels weak down low, then sometimes it feels extremly alive. It might be the ECU still trying to figure out whats going on. But above 4k, the car screams to life, and there is a noticeable difference.

Wrah, remove the 3rd sentence and the first 5 words of the second paragraph, and I agree. The 3rd paragraph, not sure what your point is.
