is an AT coupe worth modding for power?
hi guys, i live in the uk and have a skyline 350 gt, and to be honest im bored with it, for a 3.5 litre car its slow, my mate has a civic type r the newer one, it eats my car from still or rolling start, id probably catch him up when were going but im limited to 112mph because its a *** import. even the british 2.5 turbo focus sts make me look like poo, i hate it.................., so turbo time.
my car is auto, can the auto box take any more power and abuse?
i read an APS turbo dealer here in the uk, the website says that a twin turbo will cost nearly 9000 pounds fully fitted (14,000 us dollars), and my AT transmission will have to be upgraded that is nearly more than i paid for the car, also i spoke to a TTurbo 350z owner whos engine broke after his conversion, he said the vq35 isnt as strong as people make out, he was only running 400ish horsepower!
i know you should upgrade your bottom end when gaining big power, but i saw the cosworth prices for a block , OMG thats reallly really pricey too!
so im thinking a single turbo conversion which hopefully will cost half as much as a twin turbo, but my big question is "is it worth it?", will i be able to beat the dreaded type r, can the auto box take it or will it have to be expensivly modified?can a standard engine hold up to a single turbo, i dont wanna get carried away with the tuning i just wanna beat the type r!!!!!!!!!!!
any thoughts much appreciated guys, also i know the g35coupe is heavy, how much weight in ibs is saved by losing the spare wheel , all the trunk and trimmings and the back seats?

I have an 03 5at and have been running with boost for over 57,000 miles and everything is still fine. The first 40,000 were with the stillen s/c but the last 17 have been with the Greddy twins.Im running allmost 400rwhp but i did install a trans cooler and a valvebody. If you do those 2 mods to your trans you should be ok with no more then 400rwhp and also to note its actually the amount of rwt that is the 5at killer.

You will need a big tranny cooler and you should valve body upgrade. Feel free to PM me if you want any information on what parts to buy and from where. I custom made my tranny cooler with streel braided hoses/ and AN fittings for around $130. The cooler is one of the largest on the market.
As long as you have a cooler the tranny should hold up, I just wouldn't exceed much more than 350-400wtq.
