What exactly is the plenum???

 

It's the cover or top of the intake manifold. Take your plastic engine beauty cover top off (t screws and 2 bolts (10mm) and you'll see it right under it. The stock plenum runs the front two cylinders rich (not enough air), and two aftermarket providers have tried to rectify that with mixed results. One Kenitex, has done it with a plastic plenum that has had many many start up problems (read cracks). The other is Crawford, they modify the stock plenum. This approach has proven to be far more reliable and makes true horse power gains. If I was home, I could attache a picture of my plenum, a Crawford, and you could see what I mean.

Well where it is, it's the silver part on top of the engine, usually hidden by the plastic engine cover. In this pic, it's just above the 3.5 on my 350Z engine cover.

Thanks for all the feedback guys... so from what I gathered from you guys... Changing that ugly looking silver piece, the G would gain hp... How much would tha thing cost???

 

What are you talking about plenums for? I thought this was a G35drivers.com for dummies thread! Let's see if I've got this right. If you leave your [weak] stock plenum [/weak] you will be limiting airflow to your front to cylinders. If you go with the [strong]Crawford Plenum [/strong] you will gain hp with reliablity. If you go wit the [crack] Kinetix plenum[/crack] you might have issues down the road. The Crawford plenum is around [expensive in my book]$450[/expensive in my book], but well worth it. Maybe [MrKnowItAll] Daniel [/MrKnowItAll] has a different opinion!
