Oil Consumption cause?

Ok in reference to the oil consumption TSB, does anyone know what is causing the oil to be consumed. is it a crack in the head, leaking head gasket or crack in the block, oil pump not working? all I see are people having there engines replaced and no other fixes not that a new engine is a bad thing but I am very curious to know what the cause is or causes and whats been discovered?

It is my understanding that the issue is with the piston rings, but not 100% sure...

Yeah just wandering, saw someone said there dealer or someone told them taking it over 3000rpm causes the oil problems, don't know, I'm doing my own test though, my oil was a little low 2000 after I last changed my oil so i will see what happens now, I'm trying to not take it over 3000rpm and not drive it to hard,

I have never had the problem, but I wonder if it happens when the engine is under high vacuum during deceleration?

I also never had the problem with my 05 G35. I used Amsoil in it, and tracked the car too.

Maybe that's cause they send the best cars to San Antonio? Bought mine there.

G35 TX are you going to Z con? I'm going to be one of the "escort" drivers for the Hill Country Fun Run on Friday.

had my 06 m-35 long block replaced at 30,000. Car did not smoke but used a quart every 800 miles. NEW PROBLEM, started the car and moved it about 20 feet and shut it off, could smell raw gas, looked under hood could smell gas but could not see any. Started the car the following day.... Yikes it rattled like it did not have a drop of oil in it and blew a cloud of BLUE smoke that damn near covered the entire car. Going to repeat the short run/sit and see if I can duplicate this before I take to dealer. You know they never can duplicate problem. Any body experienced this?

That is absurd!!! Taking the engine over 3k rpm, the VDQ engine is supposed to be a HIGH performance engine, they use it's platform in all of the Infiniti models, and they rave about how it got engine of the year when the G came out. I cant believe they had the nerve to tell you something like that!!!!

The Rev-up engines have variable exhaust. The timing for the exhaust valves is the reason for oil consumption. The oil is sucked up through the ventilation into the intake plenum where it goes into the cylinders to be burned. I have the V2 engine with 3k miles. At 2k miles I pulled the plenum and the oil galley was soaked in oil. I then looked down and saw the intake valves soaked in oil and burnt carbon deposits. All this on a brand new engine with only 2k miles. And to top it all off, this new engine started ticking just like the old one. If you are doing an OC test and want to fail, drive the engine over 4k rpm frequently.

it is a problem in the oil rings. not very common. ive had 2 cars get longblocks and one was a coupe and the other a fx45. I myself just finished putting a shortblock in a 06 m35x due to a #2 rod bearing tho. again, not common with these motors cuz they are very solid but a very limited number of cars in a certain production time are within the tsb range....i would just hope whoever has the issue is still within the factory powertrain warranty or has an extended warranty.

I think it was a cop-out from the dealer cause they didn't want to fess up to the known tsb and dont want to cover anything under warenty. but it wasnt me they told, I read it on here in one of these posts,

Incorrect. The problem is due to a change in the rings. It is normal for the VQ to have oil in it's plenum. The 03-04 Also had this.
