Opinion: Oil change based on miles or date?

What's everyone's thoughts on this? I drive my car less and less these days, and am 1 month past the oil change date, but still over 1000 miles away from and O/F change. Is waiting 6 months too long between changes? I'm thinking the answer is yes...but just thought I'd throw the question out there.

Thanks for all the help on the seat issue. I'm now in the possession of a motor and 2 gears and will attempt to replace in a couple of weeks.

Technically, you should be changing via the oil's condition first and foremost. But if you're driving the car that infrequently, go ahead and change it.

I'm wondering the same thing.. I've put <1000 miles on my car in the past 4-5 months, but I'm changing the oil tomorrow just in case

i usually drive the G about 12k kms (7500mi) a year, and do an oil change every 6 months or so. i wouldn't suggest going much more than 6 months on a change, regardless of mileage. of course, if you test oil samples that is best. but for a rule of thumb my system works for me...

i think a year in between changes at most regardless of miles is the recommended interval

I saw some hippie ad the toher day where they claimed you can change your oil up to 12,000 miles, thus conserving oil. I find that hard to believe....

extended drain intervals are not a myth for 4-5 qrt oil pans.

Look at mercedes and bmw with their 8-10 qt pans
