Hey guys,
i have searched high and low on this site and i seem to be getting a combination of several differnt issues. Not sure if one is causing the others or what. Here is what has happened:
Vehicle is a 2003 Automatic g35 sedan (doggie door) with 88000 km's not miles. Car ran great up until the other day when the weather was really cold here in Toronto Canada. I started the car and the engine reved up and then down (almost stalling) and then back up and then down again (it kept doing this). I tried to give it gas and nothing!!. Turned the car off and restarted it and now the car idles at only about 1200rpm (its very cold out and the car is not warmed up at all). i had zero throttle response. The brake light, vdc, slip abs were all on the dash while he car was doing this. So shut it off and went right to this forum and started doing searches. Next day decided to give it a go and the car started fine however the same lights as mentioned above were on. So i turned off the car and restarted and no lights and the car was running as per normal ( idled as per normal). I let it warm up and started driving it and then the battery light and brake light keep flashing in the dash. When i let go of the gas, the lights went away, when i gave it gas the brake and battery light would come on. I drove back home and once in the driveway turned off the car and then again restarted it. This time, all the lights cam back on (vdc, slip, battery, brake light). I tried to give the car gas and nothing. Put the car in neutral and it revs up no problem. Put the car in park or drive and nothing at all. So i turned the car off and tried to start it and now the car would not start. No clicking, just a slight sound of it starting to turn over and then a "clicking" noise of the dash lights going off and on rapidly. So, i boosted the car with cables and it started up right away. Removed the cables and tried to rev the rpms in park and nothing. Put it in drive and no response. All the lights were on the dash as mentioned above (vdc, slip, battery, brake light) except this time they were starting to fade. Car sounded like it was dying slowly ( a slow death). So turned it off and she sits ready to be fixed. What is going on?
My questions are:
Could all of this be casued by a bad battery? ( i still have the original battery in the car)
Could this be the alternator?
Could this be the throttle body that i read about?
Is it all of these problems or could one be the culprit casuing a chain reaction. I know there are some very knowledgable people on here and i hope you can spare a few min on this situation for me. Its driving me nuts.
THanks in advance for your time and responses. If you need any additonal info i would be very happy to provide it.
cheers
Sasha

What a great learning experience to begin your electric/onic education in preparation for all electric vehicles.
Almost every Nissan gets a battery replacement every 3-4 years, failure to do so will stress alternator.

Hey guys,
the battery is 7 years old and yes Q45 tech, you are right. what a learning experience........Can i assume from your short reply that the battery is the culprit?
thanks again guys!

it's very easy to check the alternator.
1. take out the battery out of the G
2. Jump start the G with Jumper cables
3. Try reving the car in P and D with jumper cables connected
4. Disconnect the cables and try doing same thing without them
If the car dies once you disconnected the cables than most likely your alternator is bad and not producing any power for the car to run on.
I would blame the alternator based on your description.
But I dunno if it would cause the light go on and weird acceleration issue you had with car in P and D.

I have an 05 G 85k miles with original battery.
Everything works like a charm, I don't have any after market stereo or speakers.
Should my battery still be replaced even tho it works just fine?
Hey Joker,
thanks for the reply. I too had my battery running just fine and that why i never changed it. usually there are signs tghat is may be dying. Not the case here. Anyway, i will try your suggestion and see what happens. BTW, i have a battery cover. I know how to open it to see the battery but its not wide enought to pull the battery out of. How do i take those other clips off?

Do not for any reason try the old way of testing the alternator by removing cables and seeing if the car still runs or not. These cars now with all the electronics in them can have serious damage to the electronics of the car if done the old way.
First thing you could damage the bcm and in the worst case damage the ecu and possible other damage.I f you need a detailed explanation just pm q45tech as i think he will straighten you out on the whys.

You need a multimeter. Measure the voltage off and on. I bet on a weak battery. You can get it load tested at an auto store. But if it's 7 years old, you have gotten all the life you can probably expect. If it's an oem, it's probably low on distilled water. The oem has removable caps from what I remember. But at this point, just buy a new one. It's due and why chance being stranded at some place and having to spend 150 on a tow AND then buy a battery

if you do need a new battery ..
go to "advanced auto parts" .
i just got a duralast gold .. starts up quick in this cold weather ..

If what you say is true then every person who had bad battery (which is same as no battery) should have all kinds of problems with electric system cuz their car at some point was running from the alternator ONLY.
OKAY so thanks for the input guys. I took i to the garage and they tested the battery amd it was dead. They tested the laternator and it was charging high (maybe making up for the crappy battery). They replaced the battery and retested the alternator and all was good>>>>>>>>>>>NOT!!! Left the garage and drove around and it ran as good as gold. Ran up and down the hi way a few times and everything was perfect. This morning i get in the car and the car starts right up and then dies. Started it up again and it just died!!! What the hell is wrong with it now? I will search the forum to see if i can find anyone else who has had the same issue but if anyone could shed some light that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again boys
