15k + New G35
15k + New G35
So my friend is getting a new g35 coupe on thursday with the brembo's and stuff. Hes 18, and simply put, very very well off and has basicly an unlimited budget but for starters is going to put about 15k into it. I know a bit about cars but not much about the vq35de. Were looking to get at least 330hp at the wheels. Basicly for 10-12k on performence stuff what would YOU do. We'll be spending the rest of the money on 18 or 19" wheels, as wide as we can fit em and a small but top of the line Adire audio system. I dont want to just sound like every noob on this forum but please just let me know what you would do. I've heard that a stillen sc stage 2 or 3 kit might be good and that a twin turbo set up isnt quite as good of an option due to the higher compresion stock. Also most of it should be able to be installed by a some guys with tools and not a shop besides the fine tunning. Please let me know. Thanks!
Re: 15k + New G35
Hmmm, I'd be buying a M3 or a Porsche with the 50K if hes got that kinda money.... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my G but if this guys got a "unlimited budget" ..... Things that make you go Hmmmm...

Re: 15k + New G35
Some people (including myself) like to mod our cars. Its a hobby. (50k would only get you the Boxter anyways, which I think is fugly). If you don't want to wait for the JWT Twin Turbo kit, I'd probably get the Power Enterprise kit and use the rest on wheels and stereo upgrades. You'd definately have more than 330 whp.
Re: 15k + New G35
After spending several days reading EVERY thread in the FI forum on G35driver, I can say the following...
ATI Procharger S/C: scary to me (too many blown engines)
Vortec S/C: edited... opinion with held.
Stillen S/C: Colin is getting just over 260rwhp with a stage II kit, something must be wrong. That's pathetic!!! Heck my N/A G35 pulled close to 250rwhp with only $1200 in mods. Another person is getting ~310rwhp, still for ~$8000 that's only 80 horsepower...
Greddy: not much mentioned, but many people think this kit is lacking in many ways. ZeroToSixty blew his engine w/o proper tuning.
PE-TT: apparently the new kid on the block. Supposedly better build and quality than some of the other kits, but people are still running into snags (not that they can't be worked around) and the price tag is flirting with $10,000 the best that I can tell with kit, install and tuning. Only time will tell how well this kit performs with the VQ35DE.
There are more TT Kits out there (and several more coming out soon including JWT), but I'm a cautious person. The damn TS ECU thing has me VERY WORRIED about going with Vortec and the poor results of the Stillen kit have me rethinking FI all together.
Now, I could take my money and buy nicer wheels for about $3000-ish (although they'd be heavier) and thus slow down my car. Then I'd need camber plates or adjustments (still researching this) for another ??? Then I'd have to lower my car, TEIN runs ~$1600 from my reading, so just by adding newer sportier wheels and suspension I'd burn somewhere near $5000.
So right now I'm just reading and learning. I suggest your friend do the same thing, or else he might have a new G35 with a killer FI setup, nice wheels and suspension and a blown motor to go along with it... Why can't things be easier?
The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Re: 15k + New G35
With a 15K budget, I would go with a TT setup.
I have no idea what the TS ECU issue is with the Vortech kit. Are we talking about the L-Spec flash, neffster? That's the only reflash that would make sense with the Vortech kit and I assure you other than raising the rev limit (which admittedly increases your FI risk levels) it does nothing.

Zimbo,
I went back and saw that Kevin had the ATI kit, not the Vortec. I edited my post above. Sorry for any confusion. Again, still a big time newbie to this FI path and have a long, long way to go to catch up with guys like yourself, gurgen, Ed, etc... Please bear with me.

Re: 15k + New G35
I second Triji.
Why buy 35k car invest all this money in mods not gain anything in resale value (or very little, depending on the popularity of mods) and on top of that most certainly loose warranty on most of the car. Why just not get an M3 and call it a day. I cannot even imagine myself driving new M3 at the age of 18, must be tough

$15k, eh?
Get the AEBS 4.3L stroker kit, with 8.5:1 compression pistons, and then the JWT Twin Turbo with the 530BB turbos. That should be over $15000, but hey, you'll have a beefy block with a helluva lotta boost. Hmmm. . .I guess theoretically you could get around 600-800 rwhp? Gee, then you need some 19" wheels with some thick drag radials. . .and a suspension kit, and a brake kit. . .a sweet gauge setup (like the HKS CAMP playing on your navi-screen via the avelectronic tuner. . .) Damn, I guess your up over $20k now. . .guess I blew your budget. Better you than me!
Oh, and don't forget the $3k to get a kickin' stereo!
Hmmm. . .wait. . .your at $23k for mods? I would say, save an extra 2-4 grand, buy a WRX STi instead of mods, chip it, and have two cool cars!
I guess the snowball effect is apparent. Whatever you do, have fun!

oh. . .I forgot about exhausts. . .oh well.
