Re: G vs. Z
If he's a decent driver, he'll win. He'd have to mess up a shift to lose. The best auto Gs run 14.3 and the best Zs run 13.7. thats a big difference in the 1/4.

Re: G vs. Z
You cant compare an auto G to 6spd Z, my sedan is very quick for the stuff i put in and z's with great drivers and intakes or even stock give me the best run up until 100 with me pulling slightly on the top end!! Im an auto and the autos do not have the same pull as the manual z or g at all.

Re: G vs. Z
Actually, I'd put my money on the auto G (if it's a coupe). At the track the auto G's are doing very well since there is little room for driver error. The "extra 20hp" on my car really helps. Even with a better Reaction Time, I'm behind after the first 1000 feet, and with the help of the mods, catch up and pass the autos by the 1/4 mile mark (but not by much). I'm only an average driver by admission, so there is a good chance that the person you'd be racing is average as well.
It would definitely be an interesting race.

Re: G vs. Z
I love racing sticks with my 5AT. I KNOW what I'm going to run everytime for a given atomosphere condition. I can count on one hand how many manual transmission vehicles of any make/model have beaten me in a street race in town (0-70 stop light scenario). Not to mention catching someone in the wrong gear at higher speeds.
There's just so much room for error, if you're not very seasoned or race school taught, good luck. Especially with the G. Rev limiter, too much burn out...there's just so much that can go wrong. Best thing someone with a stick can do to increase their times is practice.

Re: G vs. Z
From experience, I would have to say it's definitely a drivers race. It's 1 am, and I'm at a redlight on a long stretch of road. Up pulls to my right...a black 350Z. You know the rules, and we both know we're gonna go toe to toe on green. So it happens. I have a stock Automatic G, but I slapped it to manual and we both took off...neck and neck to about 70, and I started to pull just slightly a head around 85, but by that time we had to stop at the next red light. He rolls down his window, and I asked him if he has any mods. He says it's just a stock manual. I was amazed that my G could hang. I know they both sport the VQ, but the Z has 7 more horses and it's lighter. It was a very close run and to be considered a drivers race for me.
