Y-pipe install

How hard is it to replace the Y-pipe on the coupe? is it a simple bolt on? what about gaskets? just reuse the stock ?Anyone have detailed install info (tools needed, etc)

Thanks

Re: Y-pipe install

My JIC Y-Pipe came with all new gaskets and hardware to do the install. There are only 6 bolts, washers, lockwashers and nuts, along with 3 new gaskets. The job is a DIY if you can get your car off of the ground. My problem is not having a jack that is low enough to get to the rear differential and then not having the adaptor for my cheap jack stands. Looks like Lokey Infiniti of Tampa will be doing my install on 9-11-04 if they don't charge too much.

Re: Y-pipe install

I was going to do my own, but I found a shop that would do it for $40. It's fairly easy though. It is a straight bolt on. If you are only changing the y pipe you can reuse the stock gaskets, the OEMs are actually pretty high quality. If you are changing the whole exhaust use the provided gaskets so that the diameters line up properly.

Re: Y-pipe install

I just got my Fuji Y-pipe, tried to install it over the weekend but I rounded one of bolt, last bolt too.. :-( now all the piping are leaking coz I hooked it back on using the stock(used) gaskets. Overall its DYI you just gotta have the right tools and the good ones...

Re: Y-pipe install

The install procedure is not hard in itself. The trick is to get enough room underneath your car. If you have or can get a 3 ton jack that raises the car pretty high then you'll be in good shape. Or if you can get all four corners up on ramps that would be good too. A breaker bar would come in very handy as those bolts are on pretty damn tight. Also might want to use some high temp silicone gasket sealer to ensure you have no leaks.

Re: Y-pipe install

Neff,

what made you decide on going w/ the JIC Y pipe? i'm looking at it as well, it seems to be more of a free-flowing design than all of the others out there. also, how much did you pay & from where?

thanx

Re: Y-pipe install

dude...

there's a DIY in the FAQ/DIY section...

you can also visit www.g-owners.com and look under aftermarket install articles.

I wrote up a pretty detailed DIY when I installed my Y-pipe and exhaust

hope it helps

Re: Y-pipe install

I got my YPipe from Unlimited Tuning this week and I totally love it. I had my mechanic install it and he said the FITMENT was PERFECT to my stock exhuast, he has never seen an after market part with such perfect fit. The finish was like a mirror and the welds are AMAZING. I took a car for a spin right after the install and I noticed the difference immediately, the car definitely PULLS HARDER just like what other people said, the and sound is great, indeed there is a sound video clip available on their website; http://www.unlimitedtuning.com/y-pipe.htm on the bottom of the page. Overall, I would highly recommended this YPipe to anyone, if U have spent 40k on my car already, I would like to get the best parts for the car, just my opinion.

Re: Y-pipe install

Is a double post REALLY necessary?

Re: Y-pipe install

use the stock gaskets between the y-pipe and the cats...

use the new gasket between the midpipe & y-pipe...

it is a simple bolt on really... but its always easy to strip bolts...
