Overheating and no heater

Rebuilding my G from a front end accident. I recently replaced the upper radiator hose and some other coolant hose. I drove the car around the block and the car was overheating and the fans were blowing like crazy. I had the heater blasted on high, but no hot air was coming out. Any ideas?

I flushed the system, but accidently filled up the reserve too much. Not sure if that matters

I figured it might be air in the system, but I can't figure out why the heater wouldn't work. It was working fine before I replaced the hoses.

Thanks in advanced

Is there enough coolent in it? Did you warm up the engine and wait for the thermostat to open up and then fill it with coolent again?

there is a bleeder valve on the hose going to the heater core on the passenger side. You just really need to bleed the system. Your problem is that you have an air pocket going up to the thermostat. Start the car and let it run almost into the red, once there -turn the car off and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then start it again. Feel the lower hose and compare it to the upper hose. The pressures of the hoses will even out once the thermostat has opened. Good luck and pm me if you need further advise. Later mike

do some searching...this is a common topic

my favorite way to bleed is to run the car til its fully warm. Then I slowly open the bleeder screw, let the air HISS out, then close it quickly when coolant starts coming up. Doing this 3-4 times normally fixes everything.

Make sure that the overflow tank remains at the MAX line.
