non-revup 6spd coupe dyno results: i/h/e + reflash

Hey guys. My buddy Andrew (who also does some writing for Modified Mag) just did a series of tests on his non-revup '04 G-coupe. He started with an Uprev ECU reflash and then used this as the baseline to measure gains with a Jim Wolf Technology pop charger intake with Z tube, T1R catback exhaust, Motordyne Y-pipe with high flow cat, and SG Motorsport long tube prototype headers. Overall he gained 23.2 whp with the i/h/e mods. Here are the graphs:

JWT pop charger +3.1 whp

TIR catback +1.5 whp (graph shows T1R + JWT pop charger over baseline)

Motordyne Y-pipe w/ high-flow cat + 7.1 whp (graph shows MD y-pipe + the previous mods over the baseline)

SG prototype longtube headers + 11.4 whp (graph shows SG headers + all previous mods over the baseline)

There's a full write-up about it HERE

So its an 05 6MT Coupe? If so, that's a revup engine. Unless, for any particular reason, he swapped it for a non-revup

Definitely a non-revup, so must be an '04. My bad!

The SG longtube headers were developed for the revup engine, so gains weren't what they were hoping to see on this non-revup. The headers seem to need the revup's bigger cams to really shine. Here's a pretty cool little video SG put together about their header development:

Very nice Dave, as always your post are always very good with information. BTW, this car is the same one that Sasha wrote about a while back on his thread over at my350z.com, correct?

BTW, I also have a set of SGM on my car

Didn't realize Sasha posted about it over on my350.com, but yeah probably the same car. I think this is the first non-revup he's tested his headers on.

So you've got a set of SGM headers already? Cool. How they working out for you so far? Did you make good power? Any issues installing them?

Yeah, I got them already. Took a while for everything to come together but I'm glad everything came out nice. Sasha also heat coated them for me as well.

The car is actually being tested with them as we speak. Sasha modified a few sections from the version your friend has, which should make fitment better but it's still a tight fit. I got solid engine mounts as well to prevent any possible rubbing during operation. I'll have a write up of the results in a few weeks since I've done lots of testing with different combination of parts.

I have an 05 rev up, pretty much the same set up but no headers or intake, my dyno looks about like this one..I didn't think headers would do much for our cars but this makes me want to go get some.

Most bolt-on mods can slip by without a retune.... but not only can adding headers cause a dangerously lean condition without a dyno tune afterwards, you may actually lose power.

I have a tune, I did the uprev reflash at function tuned..I would probably do a retune after the headers..

I think a retune should have been done AFTER the mods and a 5/16 spacer. The A/F ratio just goes crazy once the cats are removed let alone headers.

Doesn't matter if you have a tune before, you'll need one again after you get headers, even HFC or test pipes.

Pop chargers don't do **** except except look nice and make a popping sound.
