SoCal Dyno Day Results

Finally ... the results for the SoCal Dyno Day (9-04-2004) are in. Analysis and comments to come later ... when I find more free time.

I'd like to remind everyone these are Dyna Pack figures, which read approximately 10-15 hp higher than a DynoJet dynamometer.

Enjoy!

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

AWESOME!!! I'm amazed at how high your numbers were on the bone stock G35 6MT. In comparison, the bone stock numbers for the 6MT G35 at the Central FL Dyno Day were 229.7 rwhp and 222.6 rwtq, on a DynoJet dynamometer.

*There might be more than a 10-15hp differential between the two, none-the-less the data speaks VOLUMES.

Also, the best runs of the modded NA cars were only ~20rwhp higher than the bone stock 6MT. Interesting, as we found this to be the case as well... This data also presents a VERY STRONG argument that appears to be PRO-HEADER, and the strongest NA car did NOT have the TS ECU reflash.

Good job! Thanks to everyone who dedicated their time and money to make this event possible. Now if we could only make the 2 CA Dyno Days and the CFL Dyno Days into stickies...

Wow, awesome data.

Clint, do you have any problems with the resonated test pipes? Does it throw a CEL? How's it sound with the Fuji? I am thinking about setting my G up very similar to what your running.

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

The posted results definitely confirm the basic issues raised the these two threads:

https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&sb=5&part=all

https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&sb=5&part=all

There is no escaping the fact that bolt on mods are a VERY expensive way to try to increase power. Depending on one's mechanical skill, the cost for power runs about $100-150/HP with a dead end at around 20 HP or so.

It is nothing short of remarkable that the popularity of bolt-ons remains in the face of such dismal performance. Perhaps the notion that somehow "my car will be different" drives continued sales. This borders on "The Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome!

Based on all the information published in these forums, the only really viable consideration for someone with a stock G35 who wants more power seems to be the Stillen SC. While some may cling to the romance of more exotic FI equipment, at present Stillen is the only approach that has not resulted in blown engines and/or assorted other expensive sorrows.

The Stillen SC costs about twice what the total cost would be for all the bolt-on mods combined, but yields about FIVE TIMES the power increase.

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

Clint,

Thanks for posting the results and hosting the dyno day.

I believe that my car (5AT) was dynoed in 4th. The MPH at redline was 130s MPH. I don't think third reaches that. I don't know if this will make a difference.

It's strange how a stock 6mt coupe will make significantly more than other 6mt cars (even with mods).

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

You should know that the ones in Florida were done on a Dynojet which always will be about 10-15 hp less than what the ones on SOCAL day read. Less drivetrain loss since no wheels. So really, its not any higher than others we see here.

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

these numbers seem more than 10-15 over dynojet numbers, theres no way a stock g35 is doing 250+ to the wheels stock....... well it did im just saying it seems a little steep.....

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

E_K,
Yes, that's right ... you were one of the very first ATs that was dyno'd. Your's was dyno'd in 4th gear. I've updated the web page noting so.

Re: SoCal Dyno Day Results

klg35,
All the MTs were dyno'd in 4th gear. Are you sure yours was done in 3rd? I'll be heading back there again to do more tuning w. my car ... I'll check your run data out.

Shawn's done enough G35 MTs to know better by now. I was just there yesterday to check my AF post Technosquare ECU ... and he dyno'd in 4th w.o. even asking.

Also updated your info.
