I use about 1 qt every 3,000-4,000 miles. I've been using 5w-30 also. I'm not as bad as you but I've always wondered why I'm using. ie.. during cold or warm states.

I got a deal on penzoil EDGE in 10w 30. I'm going to compare if going to a thicker cold weight makes any diff. If not, I might consider a 5w-40 (upping the warm weight) and see if that slows the comsumption down.

You could try a 5w40 in either synthetic or dino and see what happens.

i have used 10w-30 once and it did stop the consumption was missing about little less than a quart at 3,000 miles better then 1,500 miles bt i dnt really knw a lot about oils so u think i would be fine using 10w-30 with no problem

I'd like to think that maybe 1/2 quart of that is soaked up in the oil filter. You can pour a pretty big amount of oil in a new filter and the pleats soak it all up.

It's not a good idea to quit using synthetic and it's all right to switch to a different weight since you live in a warm area of SoCal. I'd use 10W/30 on you next oil change and see what results you get, you can alway go with 10W/40 if you're still using 1 quart between changes. It's also a good idea to use a quality brand like Mobil 1. WallMart has the best price on Mobil 1 I've seen. Don't consider using penzoil if you have any respect for your G35, I wouldn't even put that crap in my lawnmower!!

There's a lot of quality oil filters on the market Fram isn't one of them. Mobil 1, K&N and Wix are fliters better than what you're using.

AMSOIL!!! 5w30, hands down the best oil on the market, If they put it in a yamaha r6 that revs to 16 000k then its fine for my 6500k,

"• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first"

Srry if im not allowed to link to there site in the forum.

I set my maintainence reminder in my NAV at 3000 miles. By the time i get around to it, i've prob driven 3500-3750 miles.

I use Castrol conventional and a Purolator Pure 1 filter. I'd run synthetic...but 3000 miles is a month of driving for me...so it would get expensive fast. Besides, nothing wrong with conventional oils if you actually change it frequently. My oil is still semi-clear when i drain it.
