RPM is Rev'ing up high when accelerate

This is recent, when I switch gears and accelerate (step on gas pedal) the rpm jumps up to 3 or sometimes 4 rpm and then comes back down where it is suppose to be. Does anyone know what is causing this problem? I do not want to take it to the dealership because they do not know what is wrong.

Sounds kind of like a slipping clutch. Could you describe a little more? When the RPM's jump does the car accelerate as well or does it shoot up and then the car has to catch up to that RPM?

Exactly... that is what is going on. The RPM jumps up and the car does not accelerate. I have to wait until the RPM slowly goes down and then the car will accelerate.

You need a new clutch.

Thank you all for helping me out.. i just wanted to see what the problem is. because the dealership is trying to charge me a grip when they don't know what is wrong.

I would take it to a different dealer if your current one can't diagnose a slipping clutch. :(

If you want to diagnose without a doubt, sidestep the clutch at like 5K, lol.

What is the best clutch to go with? Including the flywheel and conversion kit

cdubel01 May 24, 2010 05:08 PM

I got a JWT lightweight clutch and flywheel, and no problems here...and that is exaclty what happened to mine before it went out....good luck....Mine was due to the shift fork pivot bolt breaking....
