Strength of Bottom end

I am on the verge of purchasing a g35 coupe, however, it will not remain stock. I am curious about the strength of the bottom end of this engine. What internals does it have already- does it have forged rods or a forged crank. What about the pistons?

Are there high strength internals availible for this engine as well as oversized forged pistons?

I will be making my own turbo kit and need somthing that will handle the high boost.

I have not heard of any positives or negatives in terms of these engines with high power outputs.

Specifications of the stock internals and block would be nice, such as cylinder wall thicknesses (for a slight overbore).

Also, has anyone ported the stock heads yet? I will end up doing this, i was just wondering if others had some nice power gains by doing so.

Thank you,

Also, who is running high horspower in the 3.5 V6 and what problems were encountered with engine management and such.

I was thinking of just switching to MoTeC which is costly but is an excellent managment system with many extra capablities. I am currently running a MoTeC on my teams Formula SAE car and it really impresses me.

Wow Dan,

Looks like you're trying to take the VQ35 all the way. Well I think the best place for you to go on modding this engine up is to talk to the 350Z guys. As you probably know that the 350Z and the G35C use the exact same engine and tranny. Try poking around the my350z.com and freshalloy.com forum and they will more likely have some answers you are looking for also.

But from what I know right now, I understand that Top Secret in Japan have a R34 GTR with a Twin Turbo VQ35 engine pushing 570HP. Nissan has always created strong engines but it all depends what you are going to do to it.

- Don't argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.=P-

Re: Strength of Bottom end

It all depends on my budget and it wont be a quick project either, i am sure it will be a while before i will get it to where i want it.

I guess step one is going and getting one

But, i would love to see these cars compete with some of the worlds top sportscars.

I am glad to hear that these engines are quite strong, that was my only concern, well, I also need to find out about the trans.

wow MOtec! not only is it expensive, but hard to find someone to program it. And if you do find someone it costs bank to have them work on the car.

Ya a good place to look is on the 350 sites like ray said. the majority of the 350z heads seem deaper into tunning. Please let us know what you find out about the strenght of the internals. I want to know what this vq can handle.

I am also on Lawrence Tech Universities Formula SAE team, and we program a new motoec every year for each new car we build. Granted it is for a 600cc Honda F4i engine and the V6 in the coupe will require more tuning espcially with the turbo, but i dont think it will be overly complex.

: X , you didn't mention that you knew how to program it.. then do the motec. How did the motec feel on the f4i? I have a 01 gsxr750 with just a yosh slip on, TRE kit and some other little mods. I never did a power commander cause I couldn't justify 300+ for a little more throttle response.
A motec system is more worth it.

Re: Strength of Bottom end

Well the MoTeC for the F4i is about $4000, It is about the best thing you can do with it but for power numbers we really cant compare because in FSAE rules we have to run a 20mm restrictor.

The motec can do just about anything, we are working on launch control for this years car, it also plots out the course and measures just about anything you want. In terms of knowing exactly what your car is doing... Motec is the best. We used to run a Haltec but it wasnt as good.

I would say its hard to justify a $4000 Motec for a $10000 bike unless you are in a competition or somthing, or just a perfectionist like me.
