Vortech DIY kit..?
Vortech DIY kit..?
So my little brother is into Mustangs. Evidently the G35 and the 4.6L GT use the same blower for the entry level Vortech sc kit. He points me to this thread:
http://mustangforums.com/forum/pipes...-its-done.html
where evidently one can assemble a kit for next to nothing (1500-ish) by purchasing components individually instead of ordering a whole kit (which, last time I checked, was 5k+).
Has anyone ever pursued this with their G? I'm curious to see if the same concept would work here-- I would be more than ok with spending 1500+ to do it, and I have another vehicle to drive if I need to put in some wrench time for install.
Just putting some feelers out there. Duplicate thread on frenzy

- new Vortech tuner kits (no FMU or engine management) can be had for ~$3,600.
- our kits use a much more expensive bracket - around $600 per the folks on my350z who've bought one
- our kits use an intercooler
- charge piping will be more extensive & expensive due to the intercooler
entry costs are only a small part of the story when boosting your car. you'll need to upgrade your fuel system (injectors maybe, but definitely a pump if not using the vortech FMU - these costs were mentioned but not included on the website you posted), get your own engine management, and pay for tuning. there are also the costs of supporting mods (coolers, fans, upgraded clutch / valve body, gauges, etc). nitrous may be a better option for you if you're deadset on boosting but want to keep the costs below $2k.

I'm also considering buying the vortech tuner kit. I think it will be a bit more expensive than buying the full kit together but this way you can buy the parts you want. Mostly for me that would be because I would like a turboXS Utec. But IDK! I just want 400hp at a reasoable price ie. under 6k
