Question?

I think I might have a problem.
I purchased my unorthodox SS pulley set from a member from my350z.com. When I recieved them and opened the box the pulleys had little chiped around the edges, not where the belt sits.
Will this cause any problems?
Suggestions please

Re: Question?

How bad is the chip? The pulleys are supposed to be inertially balanced about their rotational center, any chip would contribute to a rotating "unbalance". This is a potential bearing wear problem in and of itself...

Re: Question?

IIRC, there were some notches around the outer edge of the pulley. Do the 'notches' look machined or do they look like they were damaged?

Re: Question?

ugh. I'd try to get my $ back if I were you just to be on the safe side. I don't think it would be worth the risk to put a damaged (even slightly) pulley on.

Re: Question?

I took the pulley to Pep Boys and they looked at it and said that as long as the part where the belt sits on the pulley is fine then it wont be a problem. I still dont know what to do.
Thanks you guys for for your input

Re: Question?

Neffster is correct. A lot of design time was put into that pully for balancing reasons. Any damage to that part could spell serious problems down the line. If you do decide to install it against better judgment, use blackstone oil analysis on a regular basis to verify you don't have internal problems.

FYI, Pep Boys counter people, although some may argue competent, are not mechanical engineers.

Re: Question?

I contacted unorthodox and sent them pictures of the pulley. I also talked to one of there techs and said it wont be a problem.
