UR crank pulley install
UR crank pulley install
Hey...
FOr those of you who have installed or are planning to install the UR crank pulley, I found this to help with the removal of the notorious crank pulley bolt.

Will this work?
I know of using a chain wrench to assist in the removal of the pulley bolt for the 5AT and stepping on the brakes for the 6MT. But I thought that this might help in removing the bolt w/o stripping the hell out of it.
Curiously enough, I talked with the Nissan tech when I did my last oil change and asked him how I would "unofficially" remove the crank pulley bolt. He kindly said "unofficially" that you can just unscrew it with an impact wrench. "just let 'er rip" and the bolt should come out w/o needing a chain wrench or stepping on the brakes. Does this sound right? I guess it depends on the PSI capability of your air compressor tank.
anyway, $9.99 for the Bolt Puller Set seems reasonable but will it work? Personally, I still want a pro shop to do the install so I don't screw up the pulley belts tensioning.....

Re: UR crank pulley install
yes an impact wrench will work on a 6MT. you don't even need to step on the brakes, just put it in 4th or 5th gear so the clutch will keep the engine from spinning. It will also work on the 5AT if you can find a way to hold the flexplate in place. There is usually an access cover to get to part of the flexplate. Look in there and see if there is anything to grip onto.

Re: UR crank pulley install
There is an access panel to get to the flex plate. It is fairly easy to get to and jam a screwdriver in there to stop the spinning on a 5AT. I was able to get the crank pulley bolt off using this method but was unable to walk the actual pulley off the crank! Most people have not had this problem. Mine happened to be stuck on there. I'm taking it in to a shop to get it done within the next couple weeks.

Re: UR crank pulley install
Is the UR crank pulley something pretty safe to install yourself or should it be installed by professionals (or someone who really knows what he's doing)? I'm considering a UR pulley for my G and would like to know if it's something I should install myself.
Thanks.
