Catback Exhaust vs. 19" wheels

Hey guys, ive been driving myself completely insane trying to figure out what would best suit me. Im considering a stillen/borla catback exhaust system, and some 19" wheels. Ive looked at the new 19" wheels offered my infiniti and nissan, and some others. The catback would provide me with an inhanced look in the back of my car with the stainless steel muffler, and it would also give me about a 20 hp increase in power, along with the increased power if i decided to put on cold air induction or forced induction. The 19" wheels, however, would look amazing on the G during the summer. I was also considering the Greddy front bumper, but I dont tihnk I can deal with the aggrivation of such a low bumper right now. Anyone have a catback exhaust? If so, how has it improved performace. Im looking for a deep note, but not a constant ricy sound, which leads me to stillen catback. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mike

Well I don't think a single exhaust for an NA car will give you 20hp. I will bet you that when you get an exhaust and put it on, you will barely feel a large difference.

It all depends on your goal. Either would be nice but if you go force induction, it will be nice. I've always been an all go no show! So I think the stock rims look fine! I think the borla would be my choice.

I'd be willing to pay $1500 for an exhaust that could produce 20rwhp. If you can find one, make sure to post the link. If you're considering the Stillen, Borla, Fujitsubo, etc... the BEST gains I've seen near redline are about 7rwhp. Search "exhaust shoot out" and look for posts by DaveO for more information.

this is a classic BLING vs. PERFORMANCE question. What do you care about more? I care about both (less bling, more performance though), so I saved up and went with BOTH!

Wanna see mine?

Buy yourselff 19 inch wheels. The G coupe is fast enough.

I can't comment on the stillen, but I have the borla. It has a very deep sound compared to stock almost making the car quieter until you rev past 3k rpm. As for performance, forget it. It is too minimal. I agree with others who say you only buy exhaust for looks and sound. I dyno'd my car (borla exhaust & z-tube) yesterday to get some numbers before I will add some type of high flow cats. Borla exhaust added 2 horsepower (231 now, 229 before) while adding nothing to torque (222.6).

2K4 - 6 spd mt, diamond graphite coupe, z-tube, borla exhaust. Next mod: RT cats

Ian,
You dynoed your car and didn't tell me? I would have taken the day off of work (vacation) just to have joined you... RATS!

Sorry bout that Neff. It was a spur of the moment type deal. Plus, I had the dyno work done at Titan Motorsports and I know you don't feel very positive about that place since the dyno day... I will dyno again after I add high flow cats or test pipes after Dec. and again after I add plenum.

I'd go with the rims, rather than the exhaust. I don't hear (or see for that matter) much gains worth $1500, wheel will totally individualize your G, plus the stock exhaust looks and sounds pretty damn good...biggest tips I've seen on a stock car.

Someone is selling a set of Stillens on MY350Z for $700 + shipping, which is a very good price. I would recommend going for style first and get the 19" rims. If you are more interested in performance, get the Z-tube plenum, high flow cats and maybe the Y-Pipe. From what I heard CAT-back doesn't do too much.
