2004 6mt shot trans 79K miles
hi, i have searched and searched so i apologize if i missed any previous posts on this.
my 2004 6mt trans is shot at 79K miles. The car makes a bad whining noise and won't shift into 2nd and sometimes first up or down when cold.
so, i need some advice. the car is out of warranty and i changed my own fluids so infiniti won't obviously cover.
anyone swap in another trans? are there better ones out there for replacement? can it be rebuilt? anyone changed it themselves? what should i be thinking about on this for a long term solution?
i would probably do the clutch and flywheel at teh same time. thanks in advance. oh, i live near Salt Lake City Utah, so any shops anyone would recommend would be helpful. the infiniti dealership here are major jerks to work with, so no soup for them today.

I think so. It seems like the trans is not functioning due to bad / worn parts. I could nurse it along, but when it is cold, no worky.
**** at 79k miles? This sort of scares me lol.. I need to check the maintenence records that the person I bought the car from gave me cause my car's almost at 105k now.

When you do the clutch/flywheel you can get a diff pilot bearing and throw out bearing and do those at the same time. You can get a kit with the JWT fly/clutch from CZP and it includes the bearings plus a SS braided clutch line.
If you are in UTAH you need to check out www.utahzclub.com and get to know a few guys on there. If I lived out there I could help you out but I moved down to Las Vegas here last year. I was just up there last week though.
the 2003/2004 6MTs are not as good as the 2006+ (CD009) which have upgraded synchros.

I have heard of people replacing their 03-04 trannys with the cd009 with ease so I am guessing it is a direct bolt on since the main change was just synchros. Mine is very notchy and cant stand it. I am going to replace the tranny fluid because that is said to help but will eventually swap it out with a cd009. Hope everything works out and good luck.
