Latest UOA on Mobil1...
Here's a copy of my post from BITOG...
http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...c;f=3;t=002081
Okay... results with my initial 7500 OCIs were unimpressive, so I targeted a shorter OCI this time, 4K, and of course the results are improved.
My engine has been consuming about a qt of M1 every 3000 miles, so I've usually topped off between a half to a whole qt on the longer OCIs. This time around I didn't top off and got 3.75 qts out from the original 5qt fill.
Since my UOAs have been disappointing with M1, and didn't justify the added expense nor the "extended" OCI, I've decided to try dino for two or three fills. Right now I'm running Pennzoil 10W30 and plan on a 4K OCI.

Re: Latest UOA on Mobil1...
As you can see I've been using Mobil1 since 7.5K and it seems that my VQ does not like it.... so I'm going to try dino for a while and see how it goes. After that I'll probably try another synth, not too sure which, but I have a few months to make that decision.
Please don't knock Mobil1, it's a great oil, one of the best, just not in my VQ. I have it in my wife's Sequoia and the UOAs are awesome! So good I decided to stop doing UOAs on her ride for the next 50K miles or so. I've seen a few good UOAs with Amsoil, but I also know that additives are used as well. There's a guy on BITOG, silent06 I think, who got a phenomenal UOA with Amsoil, but he used both fuel and oil additives.

Re: Latest UOA on Mobil1...
I think if filtration was an issue, insolubles woul be high, and it's not.
My first UOA was with a Pure One filter, and I've used the Premium Plus since then. I found the Pure One again so bought a few for oil changes in the future.
It takes me about 2 1/2 months to drop 4K miles so I should have my first dino UOA in January... I can hardly wait myself.

Re: Latest UOA on Mobil1...
Interesting.
My history: Changed oil and filter at 1100 miles (Castrol GTX), then changed at 3500 miles (Amsoil 0W30 -- wintertime here), then changed at 7600 miles (amsoil 5W30) and will now change at 11,400 miles (Amsoil 0W30). I don't think the engine has ever used more than 1/2 cup of oil. Runs. great.
I will extend the intervals after I put maybe 20,000 miles on it.

Here's a link to Blackstone labs
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/index.html
You contact them and they'll send you the containers to collect an oil sample, and you simply mail it to them with $20 or so. They'll mail or email you the analysis results within a week.
Also, it's interesting to read up on www.bobistheoilguy.com Be careful though... oil talk can become addictive; I'm hooked, and oil analyses have become a hobby to me.
I feel confident that just about any oil will do fine at 4K mile intervals, but I wanted to extend my interval to 7500 miles on synth. I did the analyses to make sure that I could go that long without experiencing high wear on the engine. Obviously the UOAs showed me that 7500 was not an optimal interval, hence my current trials with dino.

Re: Latest UOA on Mobil1...
Chinee,
The lead numbers have come down pretty nicely. It looks like that this is all M1 can do. In my car (after the TT), M1 (after only 2600 miles or so) showed the same wear as your ~7500 mile use interval test. Turbos eat up the oil it seems.
Good progress. Maybe it's time to try Amsoil, but with the increased cost, I think it's bette rto just change the oil/filter wth te cheaper M1 every 3K and call it a day.
