Oil Changes

Simple question/poll.
What intervals are people changing their motor oil?

The AT tranny took a dump with 2900 miles on it so it had to go in for service... since it was close to 3k i asked the dealer to do an oil change on it but they said they recommend waiting till 7k miles. Car does mostly city driving so i think i should change at 3k using regular motor oil... what do u guys think?
car is 3200 on it now and i just don't feel right driving it with old oil... it's not dirty though.

Juan5446.
I agree with your schedule bro. I'm surprised the dealer refused to do it.
City driving is murder on motor oil and you're wise to do it early.

Oil Change Intervals

I change my oil every 3,000 miles, using Mobile One filters and Mobile One 5W-30 synthetic oil. The whole thing costs me about $30, and the worst part is removing all those fasteners. My understanding of oil chemistry is that despite the remarkable lubricating properties of synthetic oil (which can last a long time) you still get some breakdown of the additives. Many of those additives are critical to a clean system and long engine life. I'm sure that this is a conservative schedule, but it's a small price to pay for keeping things clean and working well. New cars require much more cleaning to work well due to closer tolerances and the like, so I employ more BG cleaning (flush) products as a result (tranny, coolant, oil, fuel).
