Help identify this part!
 

Please help identify this black box. It's attached to the hood sensor bracket but I don't think its a part of the hood sensor mechanism. I haven't been able to find it on any other G.

It has this written on the box:

28757
AM700
BFI

It's taking up the space I need for an oil catch can

It doesn't appear to be OEM. My best guess would be your car has some sort of aftermarket anit-theft system (or did at some point) and uses that hood sensor as an alarm trigger, as if a door were opening etc.

You guessed right, Canada was the key.

From the 2006 service manuals there is a whole section called "Headlamp (For Canada) - Daytime Light System" which runs from pages LT-37 to LT-76.

My fogs don't work at all on my 06 us projectors. I have 04 canadian coupe. When I got the projectors I hooked up an hid kit to the fogs since the lights were out already. The projector lenses work fine, I have no drl (expected and am fine with that), however the fogs don't work at all, even if I try switching them on manually, regardless of whether projectors are running or not. Any suggestions?

I don't know how the '04 was wired but I think it was different from '05/'06 (the only service manuals I have). Here's another thread about this which describes the system for '05/'06:

You probably just need to find which wire is powered when you switch on the fogs and then move that to your new fogs. Might be best to bypass the Daytime Light System all together - if that's legal for you - because I'm pretty sure HID's won't run at 1/2 voltage.

I was thinking it might be the voltage too but how do I bypass the drl? I tried pulling the fuse to no result

Again, I don't know how the '04 was wired but when you switch on the fogs it must power a wire that ends up in the headlight area - just find which wire that is and connect it to the bulb, or ballast.

In '05/'06 the fogs were 1/2 of a two-filiment halogen which also served as high beams. (And it was the high-beam half of that bulb that ran at 1/2 voltage for DRL in Canada.)

SInce you've mixed years I also don't know how your conversion kit is wired. Do you have high-beams? If you want that lower bulb to be your fog then you just need to find that wire and make the connection.

High beams work fine. there is no conversion kit its just plug and play (there is only one plug). For the hid kit for the fogs I bought a kit from ddm tuning. Two of my friends are running the same setup and everything works. However one is an 05 coupe, and the other is an 07 (which already had projectors).

Fog Lamp Operation (For CANADA)
The fog lamp switch is built into the combination switch. The lighting switch must be in the 2ND position or AUTO position (LOW beam is ON) and the fog lamp switch must be ON for fog lamp operation.
With the fog lamp switch in the ON position, the CPU of the IPDM E/R grounds the coil side of the fog lamp relay. The fog lamp relay then directs power
● to front combination lamp LH terminal 1
● through daytime light relay-1 terminal 3
● to daytime light relay-1 terminal 2 and 5
● through IPDM E/R terminal 37
● to front combination lamp RH terminal 1
● through IPDM E/R terminal 36. Ground is supplied
● to front combination lamp LH terminal 8
● through daytime light control unit terminal 7
● to daytime light control unit terminal 9
● through grounds E17 and E43
● to front combination lamp RH terminal 8
● through grounds E17 and E43.
With power and grounds supplied, the front fog lamps illuminate.

Your problem could be just a fuse or the fog lamp relay (not sure where that is but you could probably find it in the lt.pdf file linked to above). Below is a pic of the main components including which fuses to check.
