Where's the starter located?!

So I've narrowed my problem down to a bad starter/solenoid. I turn the key to ON, hear the fuel pump vaccum and the navi DVD, then i turn the key to start the car and i hear a single click. I had a co-worker try to start it while i was in the engine bay wnd it soundedlike the click was coming from under the throttle body. Can i replace it from the top? My cars parked on a slight hill so im kinda hesitant to jack it up. I also heard i can tap it with a hammer a couple times for a temp fix. If i could do that, i would just drive it to autozone and do it there. I already looked at the FSM but it only shows a picture of the thing and how to take it apart, i need a picture of its location on the engine.

Thnx, but I'm still at a loss for its exact location :(

Assuming it is a Non-HR (03-07 Coupe, 03-06 Sedan) It is located on the passenger side of the bell housing, it is only accessible from below. Fairly simple to change, only 2bolts.

Before you go to the trouble of getting under the car, attempt to jump it off. Sometimes when Voltage gets low the starter will just click. Its worth a shot.

Goodluck!

Just got back from under it, i used 2 jacks and didnt see it at all. Of the 2 engine skid plates, i took off the rear-most one. I had my battery brought to firestone to have it tested(since i have a warranty) and it was at 12v

if none of your electronics shot off when trying to start, then it is most likely a starter, if they do shot off, its a battery.

it is on the driver side under the headers (you can see it in this pic)
those two cylindrical things are starter and solenoid, or in a same location but on a pass side, depends on what engine you got.

from an '06 manual below. 2WD on the passenger side, AWD on the driver's side.

these school computers are soo limited i can't even circle the starter for you. I see it in the pix above. The reason i know is because i had to take the wires off to re-route them.

Its the 2 small cylinders behind the ac n alternator right?

Apparently it depends on the year which side it is located on, the picture posted is an EARLY 03 (Manual fan) and its on the drivers side. If your car has electric fans and is RWD it *should* be on the passenger side, right behind the alternator.

The AC compressor is on the driverside, which the starter would be located behind if it were: Early 03 (manual fan), HR, or G35X.
