Use a true synthetic oil like Royal Purple, Amsoil, or Mobil 1...
Id stay away from Pensoil and Castrol "synthetics"

Right now autozone has a mobile 1 special going on until the 7th.. something like $30 for mobil 1 oil and filter

FYI - when you search you should change it to RELEVANCE. You will find about 10000 threads dedicated to all your oil quesions!

The last engine oil analysis I saw on here, Pensoil Platinum had the best stats after the oil analysis tests. There was a good comparison I saw on here, overpriced stuff like royal purple didn't perform any better really.

I buy whichever synthetic is on sale

It's a broadway mirror. Look it up, they're longer mirrors that clamp on. They're great.

Good grief, please don't chime in if you are going to be an idiot. If you don't think a high school math teacher is an efficient thinker, you need to regroup and try again (see what I did there?) Everyone needs help every now and then, even after they've tried, just like the OP pointed out later in his post. And I think g35driver.edu is a FANTASTIC idea. A site where people could come and learn from other helpful people about their car, wow.

Hey Kev,

There wasn't much flaming in my comment. But back to your comment. Let me tell you a proverb you have heard before. "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

By teaching new members like yourself (dec 11) and radiohead (jan 12) how to search for answers, you will find the necessary information provided in this website containing endless amount of data. Its fine asking but I would like to see some amount of effort in searching and reading before making duplicate threads.

Who likes the student that never tries and only looks for short cuts?

I apologize for how my previous post sounded that I addressed to you, it was my intent to defend the new member from getting the same old "search flame", because I really think that is backwards thinking for what this site is supposed to do for all of us...to help. I know the proverb well; I live by it. I spend my life teaching students to become thinkers, the math becomes irrelevant and useless in the upper levels except toward very specific careers, but the complicated learning aspect holds true forever.

I have been a member of a car club for around 12 years with a dedicated internet site like this one. I've just recently purchases my G35 coupe and joined up hoping to find a site like the one I'm already a member of. I know how the 'search first' goes, but this site is really too full of pointlessness with the relevant details scattered throughout for a new guy to be able to navigate and find his answers easily. I know, I've tried, and I am very good at figuring things out given the right information. After hours of searching and reading, sometimes you just gotta ask.

Oil that is a true synthetic does not make the oil good. And sorry to burst you bubble but Mobile 1 is just like Pennzoil and Castrol when it comes to their "Fully Synthetic" oils.

the 0W-XX oils from any brand will contain more synthetic properties.

Royal Purple does not work well in our VQ's it costs way too much for mediocre UOA's

Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil Platinum are great oils for the VQ

OP 5W-30 is fine, if your motor is consuming some oil you can try thicker oil.
