Possible clutch needing replacement
Possible clutch needing replacement
Hello all, in case you don't know I currently drive an '06 G35 coupe 6MT with 59k miles on it. For about the past week or so I would say that I've noticed a reduction in the on demand torque. Yesterday, especially while driving home at about about 40-45mph while in fourth gear I needed to make a pass and pressed down on the accelerator quite hard. The engine shot up about 300-400 rpm, back down and then the car started to accelerate, but no where near the way I'm acustomed to. I'm thinking this is a clutch issue?
I've tried taking off in fourth gear and it stalls right away, well as soon as I reach the friction point at least.
If I launch the car quickly and move through all of the gears everything seems to work just fine, even 4th-6th.
It only happens when crusing down the road at low RPMs and needing to pick up speed to make a lane change etc.
If it's a clutch that needs replacement well then that is quite fine. I realize when you buy a sports car you sometimes buy headaches that come with it. I'm not looking to mod or do anything to my car anytime soon, it's already got enough power to wrap me around a tree. So what would be the best clutch kit to add to this thing for these circumstances? I am going to do the work myself so I'm thinking if I can keep it under about $600 on parts it would be great. I've seen other threads that recommend the exedy kit which is just as good as OEM, but I'm looking to get something maybe a little better that can take the abuse, although I don't abuse my car.
I've only had it for a little over a month now so I might try to call the dealership and see if they can help me out, which I hihgly doubt they will but I'll try.
AND YES I DO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE AN MT
I DON'T THINK LESS THAN 40 DAYS IS ENOUGH TO KILL A CLUTCH IF YOU EVEN REMOTELY KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A STICK.

There are many members that I've read on here that are critical of CarMax. Although it is true I'm paying a couple of thousand dollars above retail for my car, which is very rare in my city (g35 coupe 6mt with navigation) they are very good to their customers.
After the Infiniti shop determined that it was indeed the clutch that needed replacing, they stepped up. The clutch isn't covered under the extended warranty and it's been a bit over 40 days since my purchase so their 30-day bumper-to-bumper guarantee was no longer applicable. I left a voicemail with the service manager who was not in yesterday but he returned my call first thing this morning asking me to take it into their vendor to have a new OEM flywheel and clutch installed. All free of charge. The way car buying should be, now I truly am starting to believe.
