An answer to the synthetic question?

Hey guys my friend found this while we were browsing for info on using synthetic oil in the G. Just click on the link and scroll down to Tips 9 & 10. I don't know if this means anything but it appears from this site that synthetic is recommended by Infiniti and could be used in the G coupe. Alot of people have told me not to since the manual for the car states specifically to use mineral based oils. I think I'm gonna check with dealer too about this. I am due for an oil change and really want to fill her up with some mobile 1 synthetic. Ideas? Thanks.

Try Castrol Syntec. It's still mineral oil based.

the 350Z manual says mineral oil based only also

I'm pretty certain synthetic oil can be used in your coupe (and sedan).

Re: An answer to the synthetic question?

I had the dealer put in Mobil 1 for an extra 20-25 bucks. They had no problems and can't imagine why they would. Syntec should work as well. Anyone ever heard of the additive they offer with the oil change service? Not used to my dealer wanting me to put additives in the crankcase???

You don't want to put additives in synthetic oil. The additives package combined with the synthetic's builtin additives can, in some cases, actually reduce the protection the oil provides, or cause sludging, or other problems. Unless the additive package is from the same manufacturer as the oil, and designed to go with that oil, avoid it.

Re: An answer to the synthetic question?

Are the dealers just dumb? I think he put it in even after I asked for Mobil 1. God knows they charged me the full 179 for the service anyway. Oh well, it wont be in there long as I take some pretty short hops during the week and even with Mob 1 try to get changes every 4k.

This is the same guy who told me not to upshift or downshift the manumatic. It sure is not the BMW tranny but I thought if they gave you the option it was meant to be used.??? who do you believe?

Can't wait to pick up my car today with new injen...thanks to all you guys posts, the install should be easy for my bud.

Is there an exhaust system that does not subtract Tourque and adds HP and or Tourque for less than $700 that is worth it? I doubt it and am done with mods I suppose. The turbo thing is too much dough to be adding issues like warranty voids and computer probs. NOS may have to be an option but can someone honestly say that it's not harmful to jump from 220 hp at wheels to 220+NOS and the engine just takes it without getting all bent out of shape. I know the 5AT tranny is from Q but is that enough?

They actually told you not to use the manumatic mode? Did they give a reason? I'd like to hear that one.. if only for the laugh it provides.

Re: An answer to the synthetic question?

I told him to save brake pads that I was downshifting. He said it wasn't meant to be driven like a tiptronic. I was annoyed and kick myself sometimes for not getting the 6sp, but, too much traffic in PA. I go to shore on friday nights and avg 15mph for 50 miles.

Re: An answer to the synthetic question?

I don't buy that tiptronic line he fed you, but you shouldn't be downshifting to save brake pads. Brake pads are much cheaper than rebuilt transmissions. The only time you should be downshifting to slow down is on long/steep hills where your brakes may fade. Of course, downshifting so that you can exit that next corner in 2nd is perfectly fine.
