Lower Oil Pan Question
Lower Oil Pan Question
What are the torque specs on the lower oil pan, I'm replacing with a gasket due to a bad oil leak. I searched and couldn't find a straight answer, so far what i have heard is either 6lbs or 10lbs. Thanks in advance experts!
Wouldn't recommend using a gasket. Gray Permatex or equivalent is whats needed to seal lower oil pan.

I bought a FELpro gasket , dont think It can be any worse than the puddles I am leaving , I am planning a oil pan upgrade shortly after . I just need this to hold me over till then , planning on the Stillen upgrade but I wonder how much lower it sits then oem to accomodate that extra quart of oil . I am pretty low so that is my concern
If its temporary then I'd say anything less than 6 months I've had my felpro rubber gasket over 6 less than a year and tomorrow I'm having to do it again cause it started leaking pretty bad again. Now I bought the original Nissan liquid gasket. GL

Purchased my car new in Apr '04 and in Dec '04 removed lower oil pan for Vortech SC drain line modification. Used only Gray Permatex and never leaked for 5 years until full built engine installed.
no , not using a gasket now . It's never been changed or replaced . Hmmm so I guess I may just use the Gray Permatex then , do I do a light coat and just make sure the surfaces are cleaned up good ?
crap , that's not what I wanted to hear .. but I will take your guys advice here .
Follow directions on permatex but generally apply a continuos 1/8"-1/4" bead to lower oil pan sealing surface, allow permatex to set for approx 15 min. than install and torque bolts.
I have a stillen oil pan spacer and I am pretty low compared to most. I dont have any clearance issues with it. Just ask DrewLe, R1Forever80, and JaE35. They have seen my car in person and know it is much lower than stock even with 20s.
I am actually leaking a little bit of oil fromt hat are but I think it is a line going to the spacer and not the drain screw. Going to have to do a bit of investigating to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from though.

After you wait the 15 min and then torque the bolts I would also recommend you wait an hour afterward to ensure a good skin on the liquid gasket before filling engine with oil. If you can go longer thats good too.
