Coolant Drain question

Hello,

I am draining my coolant using the screw underneath the car, and noticed that only about 1.3 gallons came out of it.

Previously all my cooling heating worked fine so I assume the system was filled correctly.

Is this amount normal? I believe some amount may be trapped in the cylinder block and maybe the heater?

Thanks,
Andrew

Exactly! You just drained your radiator via the petcock. Still coolant in the block.

Is there another simpler way way of draining it more than that?

I personally do not drain the block entirely... Too much of a pain. I pull the lower hose off the radiator and it allows some of the coolant out the block to drain out. Here is a good read if your dead set on a complete system drain. If you do go that route make SURE you get all the air out of the system.
