did you circle cw or ccw? try the other direction now.also bump the speed to 10mph.
when first bought the car, went home and found out the compass didn't works.so i brought the car back to dealer and they told me that's what they did.
if it still not working then take to dealer and let them do it.

compass
The owners manual has the instructions on how to reset it depending on the "zone" you live in. Check there if you can't figure it out.

According to page 2-6 of the owners manual:
Quote:
If the compass unit does not receive any
correct signal for 10 minutes, the compass will
display the bar “-- -- --”. Have the vehicle
inspected by an INFINITI dealer.
If the compass displays the wrong direction, per page 2-8, do the following:
Quote:
Correction procedure
1. Push COMP switch for about 10 seconds.
The direction bar starts blinking.
2. Turn off electrical equipment such as lights,
hazard indicator, air conditioner, etc. Then
drive the vehicle slowly (less than 3 MPH (5
km/h)) and turn the vehicle one or more
times in an open and safe area. When the
compass displays the direction, the procedure
is completed.
These page numbers are from the updated 2004 owners manual.

This just happened to me on my 05-6mt. I pressed the COMP button while my son was driving the car. I wanted to set the compass zone. All I got was the flashing -- -- -- lines. Yesterday I found an area I could turn around in and when I read the manual again it says to Press and Hold the COMP button WHILE turning the key to the ON position. After doing this, I drove the car around in circles 3 times, and still got the -- -- -- lines. So I figured I would take it in later. I traveled another 2 blocks to my original destination and when I parked the car, I noticed it was working.

So, turn the car off, then press and hold the COMP button WHILE turning the key to ON and then set your zone.

Hope that helps

Ron
