P0335 Alert (replaced both camshaft sensors and now the engine doesn't start)
 

Ok so a week ago my engine light came on, I decided to check the code. P0335 came on so I looked it up. Camshaft sensors are appereantly busted so I looked up a DIY on how to change em. I went to autozone and bought both new sensors and I switched them out. I fire up the car and pow... and won't even start now... I changed the sparkplugs.... changed the oil and we'll now I'm asking you..... fellow proud G owners... what can I do to save my baby.. :confused2:

Did you change the oil expecting that to make it start? Haha jk

So, what's happening? Is it cranking but not catching? Just a click? A half crank?

Well, I wouldn't start throwing parts at it. Obviously the camshaft sensors are the only variable, so I would focus on those. I would take them back out, maybe test them with a multimeter and reinstall. Basically just go back over the work. Were both sensors bad, and were both replaced?

The thing is I don't know if the old ones were bad at all. I used the computer to find some codes and the only code that came up was P0335. I looked up what P0335 can be and it talked about the sensors so I changed them both exactlyrics how the DIY said step by step. Today I'll take them out. Take them to get tested and post the results. Thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

Put the old ones back in and see if it starts. You could have gotten a bad sensor. I would doubt both are bad, but if you change one at a time, you may be able to troubleshoot that way.

Ok so I went to autozone and got them both checed. The sensor on the driver side was shorted so they gave me a new one. I went back home, disconnected the battery, took off the throttle body and changed sensor A, then I changed sensor B. I connect the OBDIY and there were no codes!!! :D buuuut then I tried turning it on.... and it won't. It keeps cranking but nothing. After the second time the code came back again, then the battery died. I charged it and it still won't turn on.
Anybody have anything in mind?

you are changing the wrong sensors for p0335. that is the crank sensor it's literally under the car. I did the same thing, look at my thread here

Alright.... OEM did the trick bro, thanks but now in order to start the car I have to crank it for literally 3-4 seconds and it fires. When it fires the car feels like it's forcing itself to stay up. The exhaust is heavy (makes this dum dum dum dum dum sound), the cars shakes a little from side to side, and it smells like gas... any ideas guys? I'm taking my car in on Monday so hopefully you can give me like advice when talking to the mechanic so he doesn't rape my wallet. I just want to say thank you to all of you though for the advice!!! Greatly apreciate! !

So for the last year I've been putting up with the same issues above. Also once I drove on the freeway for about 50 miles the rpm's went to 0, all the lights would go on, and then it would continue to run normal. There are also times when driving slowly and the car turns off. I recently did some research and changed both the position sensors, Delphi ones from Amazon, and I continue to have the same problems. I checked the code and it's showing a P0335 Crankshaft sensor which I hoped would disappear with the replacements. Does anyone know what else it could be? Is it a bad replacement? Should I take it in? Thanks for the help.

P0335 is the crank sensor not the cam sensors

it is located at the bottom of the bell housing - drivers side. 1 single 10mm bolt hold its in place.

P0335 is the CRANK POSITION SENSOR

the solution to this code has nothing to do with the CAM PHASE SENSORS


Resetting the ECU can be done with disconnecting the battery - it is a "hard" reset. You must have it disconnected for a while though. To expedite the process you can pump the brake pedal several times. I have had it reset it instantly as long as I pump about 8 times.

The gas pedal reset procedure is the best way to reset it - many people fail only because they don't use a stopwatch and they try to count in their head.

The info available out there on the internet also lead me to making the mistake of changing the wrong sensors. hopefully useful posts like this will help others in the future.

I'm bringing this thread back from the dead to point out the Internet and even mighty Amazon can be very wrong sometimes. This link says the OEM crank sensor will NOT fit the 1st gen G's which is incorrect. It is indeed the correct part.
