What makes a car do this?

How come my car hesitates when stomping on the gas?..like it winds up or takes a few seconds to take off. When I first purchased the car it never hesitated but now it's very noticeable. I know wear and tear over time will cause some of this but is there anything that anyone has done to fix this or is there a main culprit for this symptom?

Have you managed to resolve your other issues first? Some of those can probably be contributing to your current problem.

Yea actually I did! I'm pretty happy about that! Didn't have to buy new sensors. It was leak in the engine plenum. A piece of rubber from the rubber "bowl" around the gas cap had got pinched in between the plenum during install. And on top of that the plenum bolts came loose somehow which didn't help the cause at all. I also changed my PVC valve too.

So no CEL for 80+ miles now so that's a great sign!

The new question I'm asking above was just out of curiosity, I was in traffic and was trying to switch lanes and a big *** truck didn't want to let me get over so (this is how ALL trucks are in texas! they hate sports cars and try to black smoke them all the time!) I hit the gas to get over and noticed how much of delay there was after pressing the gas hard! I still made it perfectly in the next lane but still kinda bothered me my car hesitated so much

You mean oil cap right?? LOL. That's actually a common problem when people install their plenum spacers. You tightened the bolts down in the correct order and torque setting right? Check your PCV hoses also, I think you said that you had an aftermarket intake, but the PCV hose on my car that connects where the stock intake went was cracked.

Could be anything from bad gas to dirty injectors. I'd buy a can of BG44K and stick that in your tank, I put that in once and actually love the stuff. You can only really find it online though. Also, I'd clean your MAF sensor if you haven't with the MAF cleaner from any parts store.

I'd buy your own ODB scanner if you don't have one. Sometimes the engine can pickup faults, but it doesn't occur enough to trigger the CEL.

Lol yea I meant the rubber grommet that surrounds the actual twist cap. And I actually just bought hose replacements from z1 motor sports website to replace all the hose in my engine bay. Figured it wouldn't hurt and be reassuring. Yea i have osiris tune so i have the cypher to scan for me. I think I'm going to clean my MAF sensor and throttle body really soon then. I'm sure this will help my problem! Hopefully! I feel like my car is getting old already lol it's hitting 113000 miles now and everything is starting to rattle and make noises. But I'm willing to baby her to the end and do my best to start doing fluid changes/ maintenance to keep up

If you do clean the throttle body don't fingerbang the butterfly valve, lol. I cleaned my throttle body and it took like 50 times to get the idle to reset correctly. Some people have even had issues with their throttle bodies not working anymore. If you want to remove the MAF sensor, I think you need a tamper proof torx bit. I picked up a whole set at Harbor Freight for like 10 bucks.

I bought the same hose set and make sure you get some good clamps. The OEM clamps will barely fit.

I've got almost 137K on my coupe. Had some issues the past year, but took care of them all myself and saved a ton of money.

Could be the ECU in lazy mode. Give her a reset and then rip it around town for a bit and it should be in performance mode.

Thanks Good to know about the clamps for the hoses! And that's the one thing I'm worried about with the throttle is messing it up even though I've read enough to know the ins and outs of it. I was looking at it the other day and the "gold" butterfly valve has a dirt or build up ring around it, so I'm sure it shouldn't get that bad lol

Bad news too the CEL just came back on guessing I need the sensors again! I'm going to use my osiris cypher to pull codes again and see if it's same thing or not

Did you try the plug foulers on the rear O2 sensors? What is your A/F ratio?

No I didn't try the foulers yet. And hopefully when I get home tonight I'll post up a video of a/f ratios with the cypher

Ok sorry for late response but I have a pic of the new code it was throwing and surprising it's just one not two anymore! And a video with everything while car running.

Did you try cleaning the MAF? Your car idles at 1K RPM? Was it at operating temperature? You can try swapping the two front A/F sensors to see if the code moves banks. That will let you know if it's the sensor. They're a PITA to get to though.

Haven't cleaned my MAF yet. I'm going to install new headers on Friday so I can just swap the sensors well I'm there I guess. But I'm thinking (correct me if I'm wrong) if it threw both sensors codes at me for upstream and now after fixing some thing with the plenum it only shows 1 code now do you think it related to another leak somewhere? Also yea car use to run at 1100-1300 rpms before I installed new spark plugs and it went down right below 1000 rpms. Also when A/C is on periodically my rpms climb to about 1000 then drops to about 400 over and over then stops out of no where and A/C blows cold air again normally
