05 G35 Tranny (no reverse)
First I know this subject has been brought up before, but the newest post I could find was 5/6 years old. I have an 05 G Sedan w/ 105K on it. Today my reverse started acting up w/o any warning. Last night backed into the drive way, no problem. This mourning get to work back into a spot and it seemed a Lil jumpy? Thought nothing of it. Then went to the store after work and that's when it started. I put it into R and nothing. Gave it a Lil gas, still nothing. Finally fluttered the gas and around 3k it jerked into gear. So I got it home and looked around on the net. A couple of threads talked about a delay in engaging. Another talked about having to give it gas as your shifting into R. So I decided to go to the driveway and do some investigating. Reving as shifting did not help. There's definitely not a determined delay time. It seems that I have to flutter the gas before it'll engage. There's however no certain RPMs that it engages. Sometimes around 3K sometimes around 4K. Its never on the 1ST 2nd or 3rd time. Some times it doesn't engage at all. A couple of times it felt really weak and hesitant at 2k. Until today it's never had a problem in the 3 months I've had it. Rather it was cold or warmed up, it would go into reverse. Drive still works perfectly. Shifts smooth driving regularly. Shifts normal gunning from 0 to 100 and from 60 to 100. When shift to R from either D, N, or P there's a change in RPMs as there should be. Not much enough to move The needle. Also in Park or N there's a faint tick about 3-5 secs apart. No tick in D or R though. The Tranny fluid is disgusting though and hoping a dump and fill tomorrow will help. If not what other DIY checks can/should I do? Has anyone else have had the symptoms w/o any kind of warnings? Would there be a code if it was electrical but no warning light? I really want to rule out as much as possible before having to take it to a shop.
