Flywheel Question

Hey guys,

So it's been a month since I've had my new G (06 6mt coupe) and I've ran into a problem. Yesterday morning when I started the car, it made a terrible grinding/screech. I turned the key to off and tried again...car started fine. Later on in the day I went down to auto zone for some metal polish and when I went back outside, the noise came back and the car would not start. I had it towed to a local mechanic and he said my flywheel was shot.

How can I drive down to the store and then the car magically break? Can a bad flywheel really cause the car not to start? I had a JWT Clutch/lightweight flywheel in my last G and plan on getting another one put in the new G on Tuesday. I just want to make sure that's the issue before I spend that much money if its not necessary.
