350z engine in G35 (not HR)

Hi all,

I'm planning on swapping out the engine in my 2004 G35 AT coupe.
The one I have found is fitted to a 2006 350z

From what I've seen I have found all 03-06 G35 coupes have the same '282hp/269lbs.ft' engines.
I have seen there is the same VQ35DE but with '287hp/274lbs.ft' fitted to the 350z from years 2003-2005 and another with '300hp/260lbs.ft' from 2005-2006.

The engine in my car and the 350z are before the introduction of the RevUp engines.
What I want to know is will I be fine to swap in any 350z (03-06) engine - Hopefully the 2006 engine is not a problem? Would it work on my G35 ECU?

And out of curiosity is there actually any real variations with the 03-05 and 05-06 engines. I see the power goes up and torque comes down, is that just tuning?

I have searched and found a thread where a guy put in an 05 350z engine into an 04 G35 which is reassuring, but confusion comes from the two different power ratings on the 350z from 03-05 and 05-06. I guess I want to know if it's a 'straight swap' or if I'll need to swap parts over like ecu/wiring harness/etc
All help is appreciated

Brad

revups can be found in g coupes from 05-07 6mt's
sedans 05-066mt revup also
revups were at 298hp

that 350z from that year can very well be a revup if it was 6mt? are you sure its not?

Yeah I need to find out if it is a MT or AT.
Are the revups with the HR instead of the DE or is that not a good enough confirmation?

Anyway to check this through the VIN numbers?

no
de's were either revup or non revup.

hr came later and never hit g coupes.

you can tell whether its a revup or non revup simply by looking at the cam covers up front. easy visual test.

this is a revup

this is a nonrevup

Okay so the revups have the variable valve timing on exhaust (in addition to intake).
So if I were to fit a revup in my G35 Coupe, I would or wouldn't need the ECU from the Zed?

EDIT: I suppose I would as I'd need something to control the exhaust side...

Okay so I've just found it is from a 2006 G35 Sedan not a 350z.

According to wikipedia, 03-06 coupes have 282hp engines (non rev) and the 6MT 05-06 have rev up.
The AT sedans 05-06 have the 282hp non revup engine too. So I should be fine, right?

Now this thread is sort of unrelated to what I'm doing.....but I'm sure it'll be of use to someone
