Angry TRANSMISSION NIGHTMARE CODE P1716 (long read)

Hey guys been searching everywhere and i cant find a solution. Hopefully someone can help here. I have a 2003 g35 sedan 5at. about a year ago just after buying the car maybe a month or two im driving around one day and my car over heats. I didn't let it get too hot tho. dont know id that has anything to do with it but Anyway with that said i changed my thermostat bled the cooling system and all was good until one day during a long drive my car goes into limp mode and cel comes on. I creep home and connect my scanner to find a tranny code for transmission front brake solenoid . i couldn't find anyone to fix this only option anyone gave was to replace valve body or trans assembly. I opted for the cheaper option which was a used tranny with only 110xxx miles.

So now almost a year after installing the new one I have thrown a code p1716 for turbine revolution sensor. I have been driving like this for about 6 months only thing bad about it is it wont go into 5th gear and it shifts hard from gears 1 to 2, 2-3. dont know what to do anymore. fluid is fine looks new like it should. no leaks or anything. now its time to smog and i cant do it until the light is off. i cancel it right when it seems like im going to switch to 5th gear it come back on also the mt option goes to 4th gear and when i try to switch to fith it jumps to D.. my rpm when im going 65mph are above 3000 so i am also wasting a tonnnn of gas everyday. 200 miles to the tank to be exact.

what do i do now? another tranny? anyone gone through this whats the solution. This car as beautiful as she is and fun to drive has been nothing but a money pit.

What the previous poster said.... I'm having the p1757 code as well and it seems it's almost always the front brake solenoid or a break in the circuit in the valve body - check the video out I'm going to tackle mine soon I will post my results

Replied to your other post, talked to my transmission guy and he said just tear it apart because it's almost always a broken pin on the TCM for the RE5R05A. He said the solenoids are pretty much all chinese made so no worries there.

03' has a external TCM so don't go dropping the pan digging around for it haha

Pretty sure it's a solenoid directly mounted on the valve body, not the TCM.

I meant broken pin on the valve body, not the TCM. he said just follow the circuitry on the printed circuit board from the solenoid to the connector at the edge, there is a harness and the.pin.probably broke off right there.

Only 04-08 have the trace problem and there is no PCB or trace on the 03'. It is directly wired to the external TCM. You can actually ohm out the solenoids or actuate them from outside of the car if you have the right equipment. What is so cool about the 03' solenoid set is that it gives us 5AT guys an option of bolt on manual control using a stand alone controller like the micro squirt reflashed as a TCU.

So the 03-04 valve body is not compatable in 05+ because of the tcm correct? But are the solenoids interchangeable?

The parts car I found is a 03 coupe, so I wanted to at the very least take the front brake solenoid. I may grab the valve body still to help another member maybe

03' is the picture above. 03' is only compatible with 03' stuff as far as I know. I have swapped between 04'-06' valvebodys and TCM's with no problem. That kinda limits your search in junkyards but there are probably quite a few 03's junked out there.

but as far as the solenoids, can 03-04 solenoids be used in my 05 valve body? Specifically front brake solenoid.

The solenoids in your valve body should be the same, I'd tear into the thing and figure out exactly what you have first and then buy a solenoid kit for $50 and replace them.

Edit: The same as any other RE5R05A G35/350Z/M35/FX35 transmission.
