05 G35 coupe transmission issues

Hey guys, recently i've been having some transmission issues and would love some input or help if possible. I have an 05 G coupe with 79k miles and I believe the transmission went out. I was driving at about 40mph and I tried to speed up and the RPM's were going up but my speed wasn't. It happened a few more times and then I pulled over and got it towed. The shop I went to today said that it is the Valve Body that needs to be replaced, and could possibly be more that needs to be replaced once they open the pan and see what's in it. They're asking $2200 just for the valve body. Im just seeing if anyone knows if this is a good deal or not or if there is something I can do. I want to just trade the car in but it basically has no value with a broken transmission. Also i've called a lot of local transmission shops and theyre all estimating it will cost 2.5k or more for a used transmission, and about 4500-5000 for a new one....

Master kit rebuild shouldn't be more than $2500-3000 for the whole transmission. And if they haven't dropped the pan then don't have a clue what's really wrong.

Just went through this with my Accord. Even opening it up the shop I took it to wasn't sure why it actually failed other than the clutch packs were scorched and clutch material was clogging up the little tubes in the transmission and valve body. It wasn't until he started putting it into my car that he found the plastic packing material from the external cooler packaging the first shop installed when they rebuilt my transmission. That crap was clogging up the cooling lines preventing the cooler from actually working and also restricting fluid flow through the transmission itself. And it was $2569 for a full master kit rebuild (which included going through the valve body) and installing a Trans Lab shift kit.

And $2200 is stupid for just a valve body. Sounds like the shop sees an Infiniti and sees enough money to make several boat payments in one shot. If it is a chain like AAMCO or Eagle, I'd run.

I found a more reputable shop and got it towed there today. Hope it works out.

I hope you did as well. Paying good money for a rebuild and having it crap out in two years sucks.

Most quality trans shops would warranty a trans rebuild for more than two years! I had a trans rebuilt on a Vette when it was 10 years old, 20 years later it's still working better than new...Gary

update: apparently the first shop was pretty far off... (not surprised since it was aamco). The issue is is that there is antifreeze in the transmission. The shop owner told me that whatever separates the radiator from the transmission cooler failed so now theres antifreeze in my transmission. He says to get it fixed i'll have to replace the transmission and radiator.... ****

That's a common problem with Nissan SUV's.
