P0300, P1446 and the factory recall...
Today my girlfriend got home and told me the G was getting harder to start but the SES light hasn't come on. My first guess was a failing crank sensor, I've replaced both of the cam sensors in the last 8 months and it's time to replace the crank as well. She offered a failing starter as a possibility because she's smart like that and knows it wouldn't in of itself throw a code. I slapped the scanner on the car (147K miles) and pulled 2 pending codes: P0300 and 1446. The 1446 is an EVAP system issue with multiple possible causes but Nissan has issued a recall for faulty EVAP canisters or vent tubes, it extends the factory warranty to 15 years or 150K miles. If the problem turned out to be a, let's say, vent control valve issue should that be covered by the recall or not?
The 0300's main symptom is a multiple engine misfire which can be caused by a lot of things: faulty/ mixed up coil packs, oil on the plugs fouling them etc. Her car is due for a plug change anyway so we'll do that but is there any way these 2 codes could be related? It seems unlikely they would both pop up out of nowhere at the same time...
