Ticking question
Ticking question
Ok so when I shut off my car, I just recently noticed that theres a ticking noise coming from the bottom of my car around hte exhaust area i think in the piping. Also, it is normal that i can only fill up 15.5 gallons to fill up my car? Lately i've only been able to fill up my car to about 15.5 gallons when the light turns green. Any ideas?
I noticed the same issue with my car. Especially if I drive it in MM mode; I hear a loud pinging sound that seems to be coming from the cats. I hear it while the car is running as well when I turn the car off. I have to call up the dealer myself to bring in my G & get this issue resolved.

Also... it is normal for you to fill only 15.5 gallons.
I've had the car for 2 yrs and i always wait till it goes way below E with about 400 miles on the tank and still manage to only fill up 18 to 19 gallons, especially in cold weather.
The light comes on with around 350 miles to the tank.
The car supposedly has a 20.5 gallon tank (including reserve)
I have ran out of gas once before but only because i was parked on an incline and was unable to start the car because of the little remaining fuel. So I neutralled it and pushed it to a flat spot and waited a minute and started her up fine

haha yah same here... i get usually around 270.. and my G is barely modded?? Maybe its just my heavy foot but who knows. Alright well just making sure nothing was wrong w/ the G babe. ALSO, one more thing.. when i fell her up the little indicator hasn't been able to reach the top for about 2 months now... i feel it up as much as i can but that damn thing still won't go ALL the way to the top... maybe im just paranoid. Somebody tell me im paranoid lol or maybe something is wrong?
I remember first 4-5 months having my car it took about $33-37 approx 16-17 gallons to fill, IF i remember correctly. But for some reason lately..it keeps the pump keeps stopping on ~14-15 gallons but now my fuel gauge is NEVER completely to the top, always one notch from the top. I also noticed my gauge reads awkward when parked on inclines/declines...but i think this is normal, anyone have the same problems??
The 2003 model G35's have a problem with the fuel sender(s). If they're replaced you will be able to fill your car up 100% with gas. This may be the problem as to why some of you are only filling up 13-15 gallons at a time before the low gas light comes on.
At the All Florida Meet, 3 or 4 guys had Lokey Infiniti replace their fuel sender(s) and all have reported back saying that the fuel gage goes ABOVE "F". Should be hearing reports in the next few days about how far on a tank they can go now...

Yeah, I have the same problem - will not fill all the way up and then moves pretty quickly to just over a quarter tank. Then it just hovers there and slowly drops for about 100 miles and finally moves to empty. I complained to my dealer about the non-linear reporting of gas in the tank and they said they would replace the fuil sender under warranty - known problem.
They did tell me to drive it to as empty as possible before bringing it back in unless I wanted the car to smell like Gas for a few weeks.

Theory: I think California gas is not as efficient....
I took a cross country trip a few years back (June 2002) and on the drive noticed that my gas mileage in my durango was ~~ 17mpg throughout the middle states and east coast, but ~~ 15.5mpg in california. I don't have too much hard evidence (other than 6000 miles of driving) to back it up, but I suspect our CA formulation causes gas to be consumed faster.
PS: california driving was done at night, thus traffic was not a factor at all (averaged around ~~ 80mph all through california and most of the US), except NY with it's crazy 55mph speed limit.

Well, here is my update. They replaced the sender and still the car wouldn't fill all the way up. So they ordered another part and it's been two days for that. I'm not sure what they ordered but I'll let you know when I get it back - hopefully today!
