Infiniti Q50 vs G37 Mechanical Review
Infiniti Q50 vs G37 Mechanical Review
Here's a mechanical comparison of the old G37 vs the current Q50 sedan:
The Infiniti Q50 has a 3.0L twin turbo V6.
Here's an under-hood shot of the Q50. Notice all the cooling hoses sprawling all over the engine bay, and 3 radiator caps! The Turbo intercoolers have their own dedicated electric water pump and circuit.

As a comparison, the G37 has a naturally aspirated 3.7L V6, and the engine bay looks a bit more calm:

To be honest, with a the exception of the engine and a slight change to the rear suspension, both the Q50 and G37 are exactly the same underneath, including the transmission, AWD setup and exhaust.

Which do you all prefer?

Interesting video and demonstrates how complex the twin turbo VQ30VRTT is compared to the VQ37VHR. That's not even including how many sensors and relays are used in the electronic architecture of the Q50. The FM (front-midship) design of both the G37 and the Q50 is stiff and robust platform, so it's no surprise Infiniti elected to retain it. While there's little doubt the twin turbo produces excellent HP, there's no mileage differences between it and the NA G37. I'm keeping my '09 G37xS and prefer the smooth torque and ease of maintenance for the future. There's also design features that celebrate the Skyline heritage of the G37 which are appreciated.
I absolutely despise those wheels on the G37. Who the hell thought 15 spokes was a good idea? Probably getting a '11/12 G37 to replace my wife's Escape and if the G has those wheels I'm replacing them ASAP.
I have some friends in our Nissan/Infiniti group that have the Q50, one had to lemon law his. Earlier Q50s also have the 3.7 if you want the more modern interior and exterior but the simplicity of the N/A engine.
