Engine Machinist Recommendation

Hi All. I need to get my engine rebuilt. Nothing fancy, just looking for an OEM build. Would like to use a machinist that is familiar with the VQ. Please let me who you recommend.

Thing is, I did that and several of the local machinist enlighten me that it's a difficult job best left for someone familiar with the VQ. In fact, I had a couple of machinist that would not even bid the job. Thus the reason for my post.

Probably best thing then is to do an Imports Parts Pro swap.

It's not any more difficult than any other engine manufactured in the last decade, and in many ways it's simpler than most of those newer engines that use variable valve lift and cam timing.

I suggest shopping around for a more competent machine shop because the one you called hasn't even rebuilt an engine that was less than 10 years old.

You also have the option of dealing with separate shops for engine assembly and for machining. One shop can disassemble and send the parts off to the other shop for hot tank / machining/milling/etc. Then the parts will be returned to the assembling shop. Call around to anybody in the area that's doing dyno tuning and ask who they recommend for an engine assembler. Those guys will usually be dealing with more competent mechanics.

Even if you're going for a stock rebuild, probably worth doing things like match porting, 3/5 angle valve job, maximize what you have.

Thanks. Meant to say I want someone familiar with disassembly. I had a bad experience with the local recommended VQ mechanic. Thus the reason I'm looking outside the area. I'm prefer to have someone that knows the VQ very well.
