Thumbs up Fluidampr, soon...

what's up all. i did a search on this subject, and was quite surprised that i didn't find anything. did anyone know that the fluidampr pulley is comin' out very soon?

i e-mailed Fluidampr back in february and they gave the inevitable "couple of months" answer. well, lookin' at their website, they already have a part # (640902) for it, and summit racing says they will have them on the 5th of may.

i know the issue has been discussed time and again about vibrations, dampening from the crank pulley, etc, etc, etc, so i don't really want to get that started again. but fluidampr has been around for a long, long, long time (those that do the domestic thing know this). anyone needin' more info, jus' go to fluidampr's site.

it may prove to be an alternative to UR for those that are worried.

7.22 pounds? Is that lighter than the stock pulley? If not, what's the point?

yes, that's lighter than stock. the stock pulley is greater than 10lbs, around 12-13lbs i think. it may not be as light as the UR, but it's another alternative for those who want to couple it with a light flywheel, or are worried about boggin' off the line, or those who are jus' not comfortable goin' the UR route (the whole balanced/unbalanced debate thing).

Sweet!!! Fluid dampers are what they use on race cars (including Nissan VQs) because of the superior crank balance they offer at high rpms. Fluid dampers are light years better than the undampened aftermarket crank pullies people are putting on their VQs. I'll be curious to see the gains. Most late model domestic V8s (LS1/LT1/Ford 4.6) see about 10whp with the fluid damper even though their not any lighter the stock pulley. Weight isn't the issue here, it's superior balance. A perfectly balanced recipricating assembly makes for more power.

For two years now, I've been touting that fluid dampers are what you want for your motor, not undampened crank UDP.

I believe when I wieghed my stock crank pulley it was 7-8lbs and the UR pulley was 2-3lbs. That would be insane if the stock pulley was 15lbs!!

here's the link for the fluidampr pulley. as already stated, these are 7.22lbs, which is still heavier than the UR. like i said, i'm not sure what the stock one weighed, but SteveAreno says 7-8lbs. if that's the case, there's not going to be much gained as far as weight is concerned, but as DaveB put it, it's in the balancing.

i think i'm lookin' more toward the smoothness of the engine, and maybe even longevity.

fred roland from fluidampr just sent me an e-mail today stating that these will be ready "early next week." take that for what it means, but that's what he said. the summit racing site said the 5th of may.
