I heard an antecdote about a NASA engineer who designed a LOX injection system for the motor on his drag car (LOX = Liquid Oxygen). According to my source, who said he witnessed a system trial with his own eyes, the injection system worked beautifully for about 23 milliseconds... The tree went green, the car lunged off the line, the LOX injection was initiated, and then, BANG: The crank failed, violently cutting the block in half on a line parallel with the ground. Most of the resultant shrapnel was contained inside the engine bay, but ragged holes in the bodywork suggested some of it is now orbitting in close proximity to the Moon!

oxygen needs something else with it to burn oxygen by it self like i said before. you need something else to burn Fuel maybe thats why its called fuel. because if we could just burn oxygen why do u have fuel tanks.

like is said in the answer by weight there is only 36% oxygen.

A: Nitrous oxide is made up of 2 parts nitrogen and one part oxygen (36% oxygen by weight).

so why are we talking about atmosphere oxygen percentage. we arent just you for some reason. the reason nitrous oxide work like is said it porvides most oxygen so you can introduce more fuel. and the result more power.
