When do we quit???

At what dollar amount do we say "okay, enough moding"?... 1/2 the value of car?... 100% cost of car?... I've barely started and realize it's addiction - It's feasible that over time at least half of what I spent on car could be spent on mods

I better find a twelve-step program...

Don't quit until you are satisfied (NEVER). I don't think I will ever stop.

'If winners never quit and quiters never win, where did the phrase 'quit while your ahead' come from??'

as of the end of next week i will be at $10,000 in mods, including rims. i have long-term plans, too. Supercharger, Alphine + Navi or carputer, body kit, etc etc etc... i am not really counting moneys right now, as i don't think it'll make me change my mind.

i don't know about you guys, but i think this may be my first and only chance to own and drive the car like that. i'll take a $30k car with $20k in mods any time over a $50k car. later on in life, i may have family, kids, buy a house, etc etc etc...

so, in other words, no, i don't have a budget. i try to not spend more than i make, nor do i want to dip into my savings, which means, after all bills and stuff, i have maybe $1k-2k per month for mods. with the list of mods i want done, it will take me a couple of years to get it all done. the guess is to not get it all at once - no reason for it. just work at it, have a long-term plan, be careful with your car (last think you want to do is to wreck) and enjoy every minute of it. sorry for the long post...

I'm with you on the 30K car + 20K mods over the 50K car... I always have to control my desire to get more things done at once... Part of me wants it all ASAP - but then I realize if that happened there's nothing else and the passion/hobby might be lost. I wonder what my G will be like 2 years from now... hmmm...

Let's see! I still need 18" rims & tires, big brakes, LSD, a high capacity radiator and FI... if you count my current mods I'll need at least a twenty step program!

DaveO there's not a program on the planet that is going to stop you!!!!! I know that! Thank god too, because with the amount of research you do per mod I don't know of a better resource!

OCG35,

Thanks again for the complement, but I'm not the only one who does extensive research. IMO Anthony, Clint, Dennis, Gurgen, Jim, Tony and Wayne also do excellent research and provide quality information worthy of consideration.

My research recommendations remain the same...

1) Do it yourself! Do your own personal research FIRST HAND whenever possible. (Meets and dyno days are good for checking out the mods you're considering.)

2) Remember there's lots of great products out there. Buy the mod/product that most closely fits your priorities.

3) Listen closely to those that have first hand, personal experience with the product or mod you're considering. (IMO there's far too many second, third or fourth hand evaluations posted on all forums.)

4) Listen closer to those who provide objective information and subjective reasons for their decisions. And to those who know the difference.

5) Be wary of people who say or indicate [inset product name] is the best and no other product is worth considering. We know many people want to be reassured their buying decision was a good one. This can be done without bad mouthing other products or other people's decisions.

6) Be extra careful of advice from those who make sweeping global statements such as mods in general don't work... or a specific mod doesn't. For most mods there's a bunch of objective and subjective information to the contrary.

A never ending process.

I've never spoken to them (except for Tony briefly), but have read some of their contributions here and I agree they have great information!
